Had a ride in a plug in electric 944
A doctor friend ha a 944 cab. converted to all electric. Had my first ride today. Very quiet and plenty of power. Retained the 5 speed and power brakes & steering. Very professional install. If you did not know it was electric you would think it was a gas 944. Cost to convert was about $20,000 so it does not make economic sense but an interesting project.

That's remarkably good range! Does it still have the A/C and what is he doing for heat?
Just curious, Michael

I didn't ask about AC. For heat it circulates water around the motor to cool it and through a small radiator for heat. It is a summer only driver for him but the defrosters still work.

At $20,000 I assume he is just using lead-acid batteries, right?

two highschoolers here in chicago did a DIY and i'm sure their dads didn't cough up 20g's for the conversion.
but for 150miles/4-5 hr charge, that's....somewhat high/low for standard leadacids. even on a 240v recharger. nissan leaf is a 100mile/6-8 hours on 240v |

I could be wrong about the charge time, he has only driven it a max of 50 miles so far and plugs it in at night. I'll get more info as he drives it more.
