Big Audi crash at LeMans....

Saw this on the web.
Incredible, McNish walked away...or teetered away from this one.

Looked like a late pass with little room to pull it off.

Maybe a poor place to pass in the first hour, but it looked like the Ferrari turned into him. Haven't heard from McNish but the Ferrari driver said he didn't see him...

Holy moly! He came in so fast on the inside, could he have even made the turn?

Definately a code brown for those guys behind the barricade...

What just happened at Le Mans? Rockenfeller in another of the Audi prototypes just crashed heavily? Was that a Lizard that took him out?

edit: OK, sounds like he's maybe OK, and that it was a privateer F-car team.

Unconfirmed report from SPEED is that Rockenfeller walked back over the armco under his own speed. They just strapped him to the backboard and loaded him into the ambulance...

It's confirmed he walked out under his own power. A lucky guy!

The other car just cut him down on him it looked like.

Confirmed that he got out of the car himself and walked back over the armco barrier.

YIKES!

And yes, that Audi ad seemed wayyyy out of place.

Very limited info on the driver of the other car Rob Kauffman co owner of Waltrips team. He runs an investment firm by day, and has spent a lot of time on his simulator training for this...... He wrecked the teams other Ferrari at Spa a few weeks ago.

Rob Kauffman comments on Waltrip Racing website:

Robert Kauffman: “Le Mans at night is awesome. Last night was a bit of a shock to the system as there is no simulator which prepares you for this. It makes you respect the circuit. You have to think about the times before the chicanes were in place when they ran flat out all the way down the Mulsanne. We are going reasonably well. We are trying to get a car that is comfortable for a long period of time. We are on the right track, we’ll get there.”

Maybe he should pay someone to program some LMP cars into the sim. How do you not know there's one coming up on you in that situation (and that you have to leave room for them)?

They just said it will take another 30 minutes to repair the damaged wall before racing can resume.
