.Net Developers: Hard to learn?

Afternoon gents. I'm not sure how many of you are developers/programmers or specifically MS .Net developers/programmers, but I was curious how difficult it is to pick up .Net development for web applications? My company is moving towards providing services through the Dot Net Nuke CMS and I would like to be able to develop/design object for use in the portals. Only problem is... I don't know .Net.

I've done all of my development in a LAMP environment... Apache for web hosting, Perl/CGI, PHP and MySQL for DBs. I would basically need to learn beginner to intermediate. There is also a high probability that the company would sponsor should it require funding. :D

Thanks!

I maintain that 90% of programming is problem solving. Solve the problem, and you can look up the syntax.

I know we have online classes for the C# stuff, but not sure on the .net stuff - esp the asp(x).net that you'll be using in a web environment.

Sending a PM w/ info on getting some books at no cost on it ...

Thanks id10t! Immense help. Free resources are always excellent!

You guys are special. I'd like to learn to do some programming. For me, I would probably find the most use from something like PERL. The problem is that I find programming torturous. It's one step up from a self vasectomy with a rusty spork.

I think I was ruined by basic years ago (typing a billion lines of code for a dot to bounce across the screen) and Fortran 77 in college. I hear that things are much better these days.

I'm glad you crazy folks that code are around so I don't have to.

My guess is that learning .Net will not be as big of an issue for you as getting comfortable with Visual Studio.

Visual Web Developer is free to download.

learning C# syntax isn't the challenge if you're already LAMP comfortable. it's engineering a .net project the "correct" microsoft way instead of just what works.

Krystar... so freakin' true. I hear from the MCSEs here about the "Microsoft ™®" specified approved method to solving a problem, then the 500 other *correct* methods to solve the same problem. I love the freedom and viability of programming in PHP to tackle any problem from 50 different directions. I don't believe in regimented programming (do it this way and ONLY this way, even if it is bloat).

You get a ton of Telerik ajax controls free with DotNetNuke, which simplifies your UI designing considerably.

I don't know what lamp is. If you have been done OOD/OOP, then it's better for you. If you are so use to procedure programming, then it's take a little harder. Concentrate on the .net frame work, which I had hard time to get. Most of my java friends think it's a POC when they converted to .net/c#.
