Google on my computer using Chrome is really slow.

When I see the typing box not responding to my slow typing speed, I think virus. I've scanned 3 times in 4 days and viruses have been found. The tracking kind. I'm using Avast. Can't get rid of the problem now because the Avast files themselves might be corrupted. At least Avast says it can't scan its own files. These appear to me to be "definition" files.

I know we've been over this a 1000 times, but what's the latest way to treat this problem?

You can download "Advanced System Care 4" the free version and do a deep scan.

If that fails go to "control panel", click on "back-up and restore", then click "system restore". Pick a date, lets say the day before this happened, and follow the wizard.
Then make sure your anti-virus is up to date and run it just to be sure.

Not putting miles on your car is like not having sex with your girlfriend, so she'll be more desirable to her next boyfriend.

The more advanced viruses will corrupt your 'back-up and restore' files as well.

I have had good luck going to eset and doing their online scan. ESET - Antivirus Software with Spyware and Malware Protection

Malwarebytes is solid as well.

Well, as brilliant and in perspective as that is, I don't have a ton of memory on my freebe find computer here. Thanks to Art (azasadny), I have about 3/4 Gig of RAM and it came with a 5 YO processor. When I first got the thing fired up and loaded some software and freeware, it was fine for my needs.

I just noticed that Google got quirky and ran a scan. The first 2 times the virus got detected and "moved to chest." Not today. I'd love to have a newer, better machine and have Norton or something equivalent, but as the Net goes, I'm picking up these things constantly.

And I hardly follow links anymore.

Milt,
I am a "Microsoft Security Essentials" guy,. It's cleaned every PV I've used it on and as a consultant, I have used it a lot! It's free and may be able to clean up whatever is causing the problems for you...
