RIP Clarence Clemons
The Big Man from Bruce Springsteen's band died today. A sad day in music. A kind and gentle soul, a great showman, and ultra cool sideman to the Boss. I was lucky enough to see him on Bruce's last tour in Seattle. Still could honk that thing.

![]() Federici in April '08... now this. So much of that band's original flavor is gone. ![]() The music stands as a towering testament to their talent.

We don't agree on much, but we certainly do on this. I remember hearing the Born to Run album for the first time and realizing that rock music had changed forever.

Two girls, Sandy and Amanda, shared an apartment in the small complex where I lived in '73. They would often invite me over for meals and we'd hang out listening to music.
Not long after TWTIATESS came out, one afternoon as I was going up the stairs to my apartment after work, Sandy called out to me and ran up and handed me the album and said, "Listen to this and tell me what you think." She had somewhere to be, but wanted me to hear it ASAP. I was astounded. "New York City Serenade" especially... still one of his best songs, IMO. It was a really lonnnnnnnnnnng wait until '75 when BTR was released. ![]()

And yeah, I definitely realize how cool it is that her name was/is "Sandy."

I had my mom and dad (hardly rock aficionados) listen to Rosalita. Even they were excited by how innovative and cool it was.

They weren't that bad--thank God.
![]() I'm hoping Bruce will not tour with some version of the "E Street Band" again. It would require too many fill ins. I hate it when bands do that. The clowns that payed the last Superbowl were NOT the Who. I saw Bruce do a solo show a couple years ago--just him, playing guitars, pianos, organs, and harp. Two and a half hours, all alone. The audience was spellbound. Awesome. |

I remember seeing him with another band that he put together back in the early 90's. It just wasn't the same.

Yeah. There was a chemistry with the E Streeters that is, alas, gone now.
