I hate you.

kidding. Seriously though.. they were supposed to open a Techshop here in the Seattle area a few years ago. We REALLY could use it. They had backers, meetings, a date to open.. then it all fell through.

I've been really tempted to join the one in Portland. three hours away..

cool idea. didn't know those existed. when i was in high school, for fun, i took night classes at the local continuing education place to learn bodywork/paint. it was only $70 a class, and gave full access to all of the tools, paintbooth, etc. i didnt realize these kind of places existed outside of that realm.

I work at a prototype shop 1 block down from there - I have Pelican stickers all over my tool cart! :D

Hah! Yeah, I just moved over from Ireland. I had a huge garage and a bunch of tools, and friends to help me. But now I live in a tiny apartment, no garage, and I don't really want to buy all the tools all over again. So this is... perfect!

3 hours drive is a bit crazy though!

If I understand what this is, we're working on setting something like this up in Marina del Rey, adjacent to the original Shelby plant. I'll let local folks know if it happens.

I mentioned wanting something like them in my area not knowing that they exist - elsewhere, but at least someone is doing it.

There are a lot of fixtures and stuff I'd really like to make for my biz, I'd rent a hotel or stay with a friend down there for a few days and reserve machine time. It'd be well worth it, considering the costs that I'd have to pay to have other people do the machining. The yearly membership costs would be cheaper...

Just the ability to use the Laser cutter there once a month would save me a lot of money.

It'd almost be worth moving to Portland when I think about it.
