Top Gear / BMW
I'm watching Top Gear reviewing a BMW M5. I am cracking up at how they are mocking the iCrash. "It's a good job this is a powerful car, because by the time you finish fiddling with all the computer stuff you'll have a lot of time to make up." They have exactly the same complaints I have with my 535 - i Crash, turn signal switch and all. "It's almost as if they made every single button on this car deliberately complicated and deliberately annoying." They seem to agree, BMW should never have turned their car design over to video game developers.
"I have to say this M5 is a massive disappointment." LOL!

I'll be hanging on to my 'real' M5, thank you very much.

And the original of the species... I have it up for sale at the moment but it'll be sorely missed.
![]() As for iDirive? I agree that when Audi managed such a good job of MMI from the get-go, there was no fathomable reason that BMW's system needed to be so awkward to use for so long. It's way better now than it was at the beginning, mind you, but their perseverance with a counter-intuitive interface seemed like pride to me. I ran two iDrive equipped 7s, and once you get the hang of it it's all fine, but after a few weeks or months away from one, you have to re-learn it all again. I don't care how much money they made, the company lost its way slightly during the post Pischetsrieder years. That guy loved cars. |

Just over 9,000 miles and in pretty much as new condition. Absolutely old-school to drive with great feedback, a fantastic gearbox and a very strong engine capable of chucking her down the road at a GPS indicated 140+ mph (well... I had to try it at least once on the autobahn on the way back from Munich).
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant car. I loved owning it and am selling it on to someone who will perhaps be able to resist driving it - I couldn't stay out of it. A car like this one sort of ends up owning you a little and you can start to feel custodian rather than owner of something that is arguably the best of its type anywhere. Time for someone else to have a go. ![]() ![]() |

WOW... That looks like a shot from a brochure. Damn fine car.
If it was mine I would never part with it.
