Military testing adoption of iPads for navigation
(don't tell Island!)
Marine Corps and Civilian Aircrews Replacing Maps With iPads Tuesday June 21, 2011 1:11 pm PDT by Jordan Golson Civilian and military flight crews are increasing looking to the iPad to replace bulky maps and flight manuals, saving weight and ensuring that crews always have the most up to date materials. In the past month, both American Airlines and Alaska Airlines have begun distributing iPads to their pilots to reduce the number of paper maps flight crews must to carry around and fly with. The switch saves paper, and thus fuel, by reducing the weight of pilots' flight bags which can weigh several dozen pounds. iPads are also seeing action in war zones. Love my pad!
Today while waiting for a doctors appt, I was sitting in my car tethering from my iPhone while streaming an episode of Game of Thrones on HBO GO. |
My son has been using in his aviation position for a few months, completely replaces Jeps and many other things and automatic updates, no more replacing separate pages. What a headache that was.

I wish the iPad had a GPSS capability built into it.

Google ALC 2015. This is the tip of the iceberg.

I have a IFLY700 and find it easy to use. Students or passangers find it very easy to use and understand and learn how to use on our first mission.
