Anyone else have Border Collies?

I've had Aussies in the past and they're amazing dogs, but this BC girl really caught my eye. She's at a BC rescue and just had knee ligaments repaired. 2 years old, medium energy level and reported as very sweet girl. She has really unusual coloring for a BC too. I still haven't met her, but have asked for a time. She's a real beauty!

Looks like an Australian Cattle Dog in the face. Great dogs!

We will have a border collie again someday. They are great dogs. We had a mix, but she looked like a full border collie. She was the smartest dog I have ever been around. I swear she could either understand english, or she could read your mind. She always knew what you wanted her to do. The only negative is they shed. She was also very healthy for 15 years, then hung on another year going deaf, blind, etc.
We decided to get a soft coated wheaten terrier this time. She seems dumb by comparison. We were just talking about getting another BC when this one's time is up....

We had one when I was a kid... Really smart, energetic, would herd little kids, sweet. A little more high strung than Aussies seem to be, but fun.

the coloring and eye patch are exactly red heeler. but the head shape and ears are all wrong.

hybrid vigor always produces good dogs. and she looks like a mix of three very intelligent breeds.

I wanted to pick up a Border Collie from a rescue group last fall, but the wife vetoed that. "They're always herding," she complained. Considering the activity level of our 3 yr-old girl, I actually consider that to be a plus. We wound up getting a rescue Weimeraner a few months later. Still, I wonder what happened to that beautiful black Border Collie.

Great looking dogs guys. I'm going to meet this one over the weekend to see she picks me.

Pepper says that you should get that dog.
They are amazing dogs.

Great dogs!!

We have a BC cross rescue dog as well. Great dog, smart, keeps the chickens in their area.
She does most of her commands well, but she would take off if she got out, a real PITA. An invisible fence fixed that, everyone including the dog is happier since we got it.

The BC rescue org also has this beauty. She just arrived and is pretty timid but what a face!

Those dogs need a big yard and/or an active owner, else they get bored.
Wonderful breed.

Love Border Collies and Aussies. Dusty, below is smart and loyal. I love the way they 'nose' your hand when walking side x side...just to let you know they are with you.

If I had the room/yard I would get a BC or Aussie in a second.

Extremely intelligent dogs, my friend had one and your not sure who is training who.

Debating with the wife over this... if/when we get a dog she wants a little girly dog... (WTF we already have cats!) but if she met either of the dogs you posted pics of she would immediately fall in love. ;):D

Mark Wilson 06-23-2011 07:08 AM

All these dog pics are making me anxious! I'm scheduled to meet both of these girls on Saturday morning. May come home with 2 if they pick me.

Drdogface 06-23-2011 07:18 AM

Actually not a bad idea to get two since these dogs are so high energy....they play together and it takes the pressure off you to give them all the exercise they need. It's just that puppy training is double the effort.

Please do post pics of your choice(s) ;)
