Baseball fans: Riggleman Quits Mid Hot Streak

OK......doubtful anyone here is a Nationals fan. But hey, I'm a home team guy. So today after completing a sweep of Seattle (another hot team) and a 14 of 21 in June, Jim Riggleman steps down as the manager after the GM refuses to even "have a discussion" about exercising his option year. The guy took over as interim and has been going on one year contracts the last two and it's safe to say the team has improved under him.

The guy is the 29th out of 30 MLB managers in salary. He didn't asked for more, just an exercise of his option after producing. Most managers get a three to five year deal when they get the job to begin with. No manager feels comfortable staring at no contract with a team that is starting to get full with talent. It's like asking a girl to the prom, and looking for something better to dance with when you get there.

So the question. Was he wrong to quit?

Im not sure if he was wrong to quit? That would depend on his financial situation, family obligations ect..

I think he absolutely kicked a** by saying what he would do and doing what he said. Good for him. Makes the general manager and ownership look like complete idiots.

1 year contracts, extensions, you think any other managers are in a hurry to jump into that circus.

I'm pretty sure he's not hurting for cash. He's been pretty steadily employed the last 12 years with high pay.

I admire his conviction, but I think he committed career suicide by doing it. Mike Hargrove did about the same in 2007 as I recall and hasn't managed since.

I agree. Not just managers but players as well may not want to come here now. It sucks being a Nats fan today.......so not much changed.
