I was offered $20K for my bus at a Ottawa gas station, my wife said "Why didn't you take it!" I said "How would we get home?" It was a 5 hour drive. Then I told her I'd only sell it at that price with a stock engine and I would keep the Berg motor.
A splitty bus is pretty rare in this part of Canada

Looks like I made the right choice not to sell and maybe I should re-think the fact I use it as my summer DD.

I'll second...."MADNESS"

I don't get it, maybe because I lived in one with my girlfriend back in the late 60s- early 70s while we followed the Grateful Dead from town to town. A few years ago the Japanese were buying them up and taking them to Japan. One sold at Pomona for 25 grand and I thought THAT was nuts.

RWebb 06-26-2011 04:55 PM

maybe this will help motivate VW to build a New Bus

id10t 06-26-2011 05:01 PM

Buddy had a real nice split - far from original but mechanically sound. Sold it for $4k w/ some spare parts, guy drove it (most of the way) home. Somewhere in LA a tire blew and it flipped, totaled Horst (the Bus) and darn near totaled the new owner.

Learned how to adjust the valves and check the timing on a german air cooled 4 cylinder engine on that thing.

GothingNC 06-27-2011 04:04 AM

I'd like to see the new owner try to get most of that money back if he needs to sell it in a few yearshttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat5.gif

The buyer remorse has to be hugh on some of these purchases. There is just so many things worth buying at 200000, that a car doesn't even make the top ten list, let alone a VW bus. I seen one guy pay 80 grand for a Nova a frigging NOVA, oh some rare number match who gives a crap.

ODDJOB UNO 06-27-2011 05:07 AM

well i have (2) friends with transporters(frame up concours ongoing projects) that had to have woke up this am feeling a lil SASSY!

my buddy called me last night and told me about this STOOO-PID money being spent on total crap while the ferrari didnt even make its reserve.

sad to say..............barretts DOES drive the cost of some of these.

$200K.....................crap. thats a hell of lot of windows and bus trannies and 1600 motors!

Mark Henry 06-27-2011 05:08 AM

Do you really think the guy who bought this did it as an investment?
Do you really think the guy who bought this cares what it cost?

Sure it might be nuts to you or I but if you have money to burn I doubt if these guys care what the price is. Also many would think that the prices that some p-cars are going for is totally nuts, after all it's just a car.

regency 06-27-2011 05:13 AM

I watch the B&J auctions not to see the overpriced car & sales.........but to see Amy Lassiter.
