My new bass is done and it's AWESOME!
Swamp ash body, figured walnut top, wenge neck, ebony fingerboard. I did the finish, which is using Tru-Oil Gunstock finishing oil, and assisted with the assembly. The pickups are custom wound one of a kind pickups from Bartolini, and the preamp is Bart as well. It plays awesome, tight and focused and DEEP!....Love it! I will have sound clips soon...

I do lots of chord stuff so the extra stings help with extended range. I also have a Tobias Killer B which is uber badazz. That's the super slap machine of all time. When I get back from vacation, I'll post some soundbytes

nice!
To clarify... Did you build this? Its very cool!

I just put Tru-Oil on a tele neck. I like it.
Beautiful bass! Larry |
Nicely done. BTW why is a Bass spelled Bass and sounds like base while looking like Sammy's catch?

I use tru oil all the time in the gun biz. Easy to work with and wears pretty good. Rub it til it's warm. let it dry 0000 steel wool and do it again. after 8-12 cycles it's like glass.

Beautiful, just beautiful

This is a Gecko 6 string from Warmoth. I ordered the bod and neck in raw form, meaning they cut the bass, neck pocket, know holes, neck and fretboard woods to your choosing. It arrives as unfinished body and neck and it's your deal to finish it and put it together.
So, I got it in, I did the finish on the body and neck, added the hardware and put the neck on. Then I had a pro do the electronics as I feel that can be a "deal breaker", meaning if that gets messed up it won't matter how good the bass is setup. I have to tell you, the action is spot on as I like it low Low LOW. I play with light touch and incorporate tap, slap, fingerboard and chording. The sound is very focused and PHAT, which is what I was really hoping for. Again, I am heading to Jacksonville all next week, but I am for sure going to post some more pics, sound clips and probably video clips. I have basically been waiting for this bass to be done so that I can do my solo CD. |
