V10 tdi twin turbo touareg

Looking at buying a 2006 v10 twin turbo diesel VW Touareg with >70,000km. Am I looking at buying a bunch of trouble? Does anyone know anything about these things? Thanks guys! (thats about 43000 miles)

I don't know, but there is pretty good traffic on this VW site.

Don't know anything about reliability, but I do know they have terrible fuel consumption, so if you think you're buying it for good mileage - don't.

But on the other hand, it is a torque monster!

From the TDI club:

Well you will be disappointed as the my friends V10 gets about 16-18 mpg in the city, and low to mid 20's on the highway.

Everything on the V10 is horrendously expensive and just about everything requires engine removal to replace.

The V10 has similar cam/lifter issues as the 4 cylinder, but cost to replace is 5 times as much.

However it is utterly awesome.

550 lbs of torque makes me melt into a pool of liquid lust at the very thought...

Look for VERY regular oil changes. I saw one at a local repair shop with a HUGE estimate for sludged oil and plugged little itty bitty passage ways (to the tune of $8,000). The bad part was, though delayed, the intervals were not ridiculous. The original owner had changed the oil about every 12 to 15K. I know, I know, that's not often enough, but dang, the inside of the engine looked like the Labrea tarpits. Pretty sure I saw a dead mastadon in the mess...

Run Forest Run. This is not a car that you want to own out of warranty. At all
My cousin is a service manager at a large VW store and really likes the product. A client of mine owned one these and was having trouble (blown turbo) So I spoke to my cousin for advice. His advice: Dump it now even if it costs you. He likes the new v6 TDI Toureg very much

So the diesel pulled it off the line and then the Cayenne spooled-up and ran away and hid?

That's what it looked like to me. The VW was ahead, and got passed right about the time they passed the camera. The Cayenne is amazing. Compare a stock Cayenne turbo to a stock 3.2L Carrera and the Cayenne is going to best the Carrera in every (performance) category. I think the only place that the Carrera would be it would be looks and maybe fuel mileage.

speaking of a dead mastodon

gotta LOVE that :)

Don't get me wrong, if it even stayed in the same zip code as the Cayenne it has some serious torque.
