Another root canal goes bad...

Looks like another root canal I had done years ago has gone bad. I've got a fistula or two on my upper right side gum at tooth number 7. No pain, but it's not a good sign. I've had so many root canals on my front 3 teeth due to a sledding accident years ago, I should be getting a volume discount. Also had to go through the gum once to try and fix it. That was actually better than a root canal.

I have an appointment tomorrow with an endodontist (sp?) to determine the damage and what we need to do. Hopefully I can keep the tooth/teeth, but I'm surprised I've kept them this long.

I'm not looking forward to the work to be done or the cost... :(

I feel for you... I had a really bad root canal last May and I thought I was going to die...

Oh, I just found out that i need to fix my root canal this afternoon. this is my only one and its gone bad due to infection. I am freaking out, thinking its going to hurt like hell when they do the work. He drills the crown out and removes the root(?). Install new crown by my regular dentist. Oh *****.

My dentist doesn't fo them. He farms them out to a specialist who does it full time. If your guy doesn't do them all the time, ask to see someone who does. Makes a huge difference.

Yeah, just saw the specialist today.

+1
Specialist in Halifax did mine. I was sitting in the chair visualizing each step until I realized continuing that course would have me tossing cookies (I'm such a wuss). Once I started focusing on anything but what she was doing, it was over before I knew it. That was about 6 years ago. The 'kid' was good at what she did.

Went to the specialist today.

I'm looking at three root canal re-treatments in the first go around and then he goes through the gum to cut off the top of the tops of the teeth in the second go around! Plus a heavy dose of antibiotics.

This is going to hurt. :(

Oh what fun! I've had two root canals done during a period of mad dental activity ending in a total of 9 crowns. My mouth is like half fake now. And the better news just today after visiting the good doctor (well, who ever sees the doc anymore...his assistant, I mean) for routine cleaning. After inflicting pain with her ultrasonic wand on my extremely sensitive below-the-gumline areas, she says "oh, that looks like it might be a cavity". Inwardly I say "$hhiitt...here we go again" ('cause I still have a couple of 50+ year old fillings left with just a skiff of tooth surrounding them). She gets the good doc, and he gives me the bad news. Time for crown #10 or, better put, time to help put his daughter through college.

The only good part about crowns and root canals is the nitrous oxide buzz. I insist on the gas, might as well enjoy the ride.

I must be a glutton for pain. All I ever ask for is novacain.

The good news is that he said he wouldn't charge me for the through the gum procedure after three re-root canals.

Get a post. Teeth are overrated.

The good news is your dentist is giving you a volume discount.

The bad news is your dentist is giving you a volume discount.

Had good and bad of those, too. You really need to know who the dentist hisownself would go to.

Try to find a board certified Periodontist. That will be your guy.
