Interesting WW2 vet today
 

Have a patient today, he was born in 1919 and served as a gunner in WW II. He was on the island that the Enola Gay departed from on its way to drop the A bomb. He flew on many subsequent missions to help the POWs on the surrounding islands.
When I thanked him for his service, he teared up, I teared up and he said he wished I could thank those that didn't make it back. He stated that he didn't do anything heroic but just what was asked.

I saw a man a few months ago, He had his vet hat on.

WWII, Korea & Viet Nam. I stopped and talked with him and his wife of 50+ years.

I hope that he's writting down his stories.

Big plus one on that. Cindy & I played pool in Salem yesterday. Don Malarkey of Easy Co. was there...as he is most Thursday afternoons. But damn, he's getting frail...didn't play at the snooker table's afternoon "golf" game...he just "supervised", joking with the guys.

The WWII vets are fading fast. Bless 'em all!

I met Don years ago in a bookstore at an airport. Real nice guy. I told him my Dad fought in WWII as well and we talked about the 102nd Ozark. He knew of them and the fact that they had to hand over Berlin to the Russians at the time due to politics. He gave me one of his books and wrote a note to my Dad. Neat guy. Product of the greatest generation...

He was a pretty cool cat way back when I was in college. Always thought he owned that place, he was there every time I went in.

if this happened at VA Houston, my father in law ran the flooring crew when they built it, pretty much all the buildings at the medical center too.
