I like to "restore" something that others have kicked to the curb, like a vintage BBQ grill from the '70's. It would have gone to the landfill or (better) to the metal scrappers, but now it's being used in our backyard.
I take old oil to the city for them to recycle, old batteries get recycled, but we still throw out too much stuff!

Nobody would want to think their efforts are futile. I can't know what happens to each item sent for recycling. I have greater confidence in the fate of items in the trash container.
Separating items into a recycling container is so easy yet people spend remarkable time and energy trying to be contrarians. Give the stuff a chance at being recycled. The odds of recycling helping are much greater than the odds of it hurting. |
