$250,000- TerriblyFugly..err Terrafugia Transition Aero-car

Sorry, I'll buy a real plane and just spend the remaining $200K to have a rental car waiting for me at the airport.....for the rest of my life!

Terrafugia - Transition®, the Roadable Light Sport Aircraft : Home

For $250K you'd think they could make it look better...that's American engineering for ya..

Yeah.... god help the ding bat in a parking lot that bumps into the fragile airplane with her SUV.

Anything light enough to perform efficiently in the air is going to be too fragile for serious road work. Flying cars have been experimented with for years.... Just because you can do something does not always mean you should. (this ranks right up there with using corn to make auto gas IMO)

The pictures you posted were the Proof of Concept vehicle (I think, web site is odd).

Here is the much more handsome Transition A (the pics, frankly, look photo shopped):

Not surprisingly, it get better gas mileage on the road than it does in the air:cool:

I really love the engineering...very cool.

Ain't going to be in my hangar or garage.

You are correct Paul. POC pics and all the "pre-production" pics look chopped. Still the form is not what I'd call pretty. Engineering-wise. Yep, I like, but engineering a $250,000 solution for a rare problem affecting only small population...not so much the best engineering.

Couldn't agree more...and I have seen better concepts. Why the drivable plane theme recurs is a mystery to me.

Thanks for posting...I do enjoy the differences in design, the system engineering approaches design teams take to, as you said, a solution without a problem.

I am still waiting for my jet pack!

Most of the time, it exists because there are people who look for ways to strip gullible people of their money. Gullible people want flying cars...

I've only seen one "driveable aircraft" concept that had potential, and that is made for the jungle, not cities.

Most airports have Courtesy cars, it may be an old Pontiac Parisienne Station wagon but still!

MotoSook 07-05-2011 12:55 PM

And Enterprise will pick you up! Heck just spend the money and buy a Honda for every airport you might fly to.
