I've got the tow vehicle in my garage:

That's a little ol' 283 Corvette mill under the hood.

I think they are pretty heavy and I am not sure how stable they would be at modern highway cruising speeds. IOW, great around the farm but probably not the greatest things for long high speed trips.

Of course I could be wrong as I never actually had to pull one back in the day.

We've had one in our family forever. Folks towed it to Alaska in '48 I think.
My brother has it now, uses it to haul stuff to the dump. It's been mod'ed and has a tailgate so is a little more practical than the ones pictured in the posts above.
We call it 'The little green trailer'. Sorry, don't have a picture to post.

super dave, those are too heavy.

the M416 weighs 600 lbs empty. sadly i found one fairly local, but my wife thinks "we" dont need a trailer. damn.

ya know i forgot the name of the depot, but its up in barstow, calif, where all the surplus vehicles go . they then assign them to a lot number, and people bid on them. all the lots are different, and ya just might get a $10,000 stainless toilet seat along with some roached out canteen covers.

theres a military surplus company that specializes in this surplus. forgot their name. i do know from doing a M-151 resto that the "gnarly" mud snow tires are rated up to about 55mph tops.

most of the smaller trailers have no tailgate. the trick thing to do is FAB a tailgate, with chains etc. some even have dump capability. aka load it with sand and then dump sand out as trailer bed tilts.

The units that Super Dave posted were pulled behind the 2.5 ton trucks and I wouldn't recommend it for the same reasons he mentioned. When I was home on R&R earlier this month, my wife and I took ours out camping near the Chattooga River. I don't have any photos of the rear but we cut the back and created a drop-down tailgate. It's a great rig as long as we stay out of the hot and humid weather....which almost eliminates any thoughts of camping in July and August in the southeast unless you're in the mountains.

Here is one in Texas for $1500.

M416 in TX
