Buyout BMW lease
My brother is turning his 2008 bmw 328i lease with 16k miles. The Buyout is $24k and the car is in Chicago so I need to get it back to LA if I purchased it at the buyout price.
Is this a good deal b/c the car is way under miles? Is the buyout negotiable? It seems like these cars are going for the higher 20s...

Kaisen had a good write-up on the pros/cons of leasing and buying out early. Do a search here on the Off Topic forum. Might have been about 2 months ago or so.

I'd say it depends on a few factors.
coupe/sedan/convert? color? auto/manual? options? (sport/premium/nav/comfort access/xenons/etc.). will it be CPO at that price? (this is a biggy). |

Now in 993 land ...

I would not buy it being from the rust belt. The undercarriage will be affected, even at low mileage. If he was in CA and you were in IL, it would be a whole different story.

Auto winter package, xenon, parking assist CPO would probably be additional expense i imagine.

Then I would say it's an "OK" price considering the miles, but certainly not a smoking deal by any means. Especially if you have to haul it cross-country (and taking George's point into consideration). The lack of sport/premium and no CPO will be the biggest factors for near-future depreciation IMO. Also, if you can stand a few more miles (like 20-30k miles), you can find them similarly equipped in the low $20's right in your backyard. YMMV.
