Best outside wireless surveillance camera options?
Did my search and the threads I found are a couple years old. I'm sure technology has changed quite a bit since then.
I would like to put up a couple of outside cameras at my house. The new cameras have night vision, will stream video to your smartphone, etc....all for under $100. Are these any good? Any recommendations? Amazon.com: Foscam FI8904W Outdoor Wireless/Wired IP Camera with 15-20 Meter Night Vision and 6mm Lens (67° Viewing Angle) - Silver: Electronics |
Been thinking of doing the same.
Problem I keep having is wireless cameras still need power run to them so it's not as easy as simply finding a spot to mount it. The other thing is even if they are placed out of arms reach the signal can still be jammed. Not that I think the run of the mill Raccoon or opportunistic thief is carrying a jammer but it still bugs me. |
Have been thinking about replacing some of the floodlights around my house with this:
Floodlight with Camera I'm not sure how many cameras you can monitor or how to set it up.. Am investigating. Having the camera at a light location solves the power problem |
Nice but a bit spendy. I'd be in at half that.

Just be careful that the camera doesnt use standard frequencies or is encrypted. saw a 60min program where they used a standard receiver and were able to drive down the street and basically case peoples houses by monitoring the wireless cameras.

This is all you need: Optoelectronics, Inc. However, baby/nanny cams are typically the target of burglars/home invaders. |

GE wireless cam I suppose you could sneak the wire in to your existing exterior sources... Small steps little revelations.. |

However...if you "test" radio equipment/cameras/cellphones for a living, you can purchase their equipment. Their frequency loggers are slick. Plug one in to a compatible scanner and drive down the street. It locks on to the nearest/strongest signal and automatically tunes the scanner to that freq. Top-quality stuff. |
I'm not looking for any "covert" suff. Just want something to monitor my doors and that I can aim toward an out building.
I like the advertised features of being able to view from a smart phone, notifications via email/phone, etc. Need something that provides a decent image and will last in outdoor environment. |
what about ability to record?
and... if so, do you want one that only records after it detects motion? otherwise, you might be watching many hours of nuthin' |
