Last place you would ever think you would see a Mustang
We were in the south of France in May and went to Thursday practice in Monaco for the GP and then did a little tour of Provence. We stopped at a vineyard to get some wine and what did we see? A Mustang. I had to take a picture of it.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1310167138.jpg While walking in Monaco between practice sessions, we also saw a small crowd gather around a Camaro... what is going on in Europe? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1310167279.jpg |
Hey, is that a black AUDI wagon?

Hey somebody get that Maser out of the way so we can get a good look at this exotic Chevy.

that camaro is surely as "different" to them, as that maserati is to us. ...and will probably be on the road for a longer time than that maserati will be.
|
Over there, Porsches, Ferraris, Maseratis, BMWs...they are so commonplace, so if you wish to turn heads...;)
But, gotta admit, that is funny...the Camaro drawing the crowd, while the Maser gets ignored. |

Funny thing is...according to a guy in France who posts on the Bullitt board, the Ford dealerships in France don't sell or service Mustangs. I don't know if it's the same for Camaro. Over there, you must really want a USA Pony car to go through the hassles of importing and servicing one.

In Provence, the US vehicle I saw most commonly was a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I think the Jeep brand still has a special meaning there.

Sure wish I had taken a picture of this but it was way before cell phones were even invented. My last place on earth I thought I would see a Mustang was in ST. Johns VI. We were on vacation and rented a jeep to take a tour of the country side and I mean we were out there in the tropics. St. Johns is pretty hilly to say the least and it;'s one of the few places on earth where a short wheel base car has a major advantage. The hills go almost 90 degrees at the bottom going up the other side. Anyway, we are on top of this hill starting down in the middle of nowhere, jungle all around us and I look to my left into the jungle and there is this extremely colorful shack must have been 20 colors with 3 cars parked in what I would describe loosely as driveway. It went almost 90 degrees up hill; can't imaging how they ever got any of these cars in or out, but I'm sure they had some method? Anyway, one of these cars was a pristine Shelby Mustang. Nearly drove off the road into the jungle rubber necking. We all looked at each other in wonder but figured there was only one type of individual that could afford one of those in a driveway in that location let alone the other two cars, so we kept on driving and to this day I think of that guys driveway every time I see a Shelby and wonder if it's still parked in the driveway?

Hmmm-Last place I'll see a Mustang? In my carport!:)

Half the men interested in the Camaro are wearing purses...

The guys looking at the Camaro are saying, "Jesus, what a POS..."

Actually, the guys with the purses looking at the Camaro are probably saying, "Wow, I can't believe they made the Challenger so damn big."

If by exotic you mean much coveted by all, think again. The Corvette is the only one that is considered to be a bit alright, not too "American" for our European taste (styling wise that is) The other three are still considered as strangers that do not really belong here. They attract a crowd because there different. (I do like the Viper a lot! but the older model, the blue GTS with the white stripes on it) Paul is right, BMW, Maserati and Porsche are pretty common here and won't attract a whole lot of attention. |

Europe is no country for staightline muscle cars, as there are too many corners in the way to make any drive enjoyable. |
