MAF Sensor..... help
 
hey guys... are there any mercedes guys here?

i need to locate the MAF on a 2005 C230 Kompressor......

anyone?

here are pictures of the engine bay....... i know its in the area... just dont know what to look for or where... please point an arrow to it like you guys normally do.....

The "screen thingie" that the air filter was hooked to with the flat bosch connector on it. Pic one is spot on

The MAF sensor is in the first picture. Unscrew the sensor from the airbox.

jared.... sorry to be a knucklehead but can you point an arrow to it.... so far there are three answers on this thread. an arrow to the MAF and the connector please.

i dont see a connector on the grill looking thingy.........

yup i just posted there... i JUST signed up there..... but i dont know anyone over there.... i trust you guys here alot more... been here since 2005 or so......

my bride to be a freaking out over her car and its idling funny..... so im trying to get some info on it..... looks like i inherited a bit of a headache fellas..... RRR.

the maff is the whole round part which air travels through......as was arrowed LOL
the plastic mesh screen is to keep debris from flying into it as they are VERY sensitive, don't get a drop of oil on it or it'll burn up.......the wire which is monitored probes down into the "tube" and connects to the plug.......
do not mess with it too much, it can't be cleaned......

Can MAF cleaner be used? I've used it during tune ups, but not sure if it does any good.

It doesn't hurt, the best thing you can do is stay from oil type of filters (K&N) and keep the paper filters changed

i've never had any luck cleaning sensors, because once they start to fail and cause running problems the wire/sensor has already failed......

Just a question, but how was the determination made that it was a bad MAF?

There are a variety of things which could cause a bad idle, and the computer code only spits out what it thinks is wrong, not always what is actually causing that sensor to return data out-of-spec. For instance, there could be a vacuum leak after the manifold and the computer thinks the metered flow doesn't match the idle rpm, so it blames the MAF.

Not second guessing the situation, just putting it out there.
I'm a "parts guesser" myself so you don't want to make my mistakes..

Some high-end vehicles use a MAF and a MAP(manifold absolute pressure) sensor, I've been told. No knowledge of that model.

is it a surging idle, like going up and down? If so, it's a vacuum leak, not the MAF.

Vacuum leak would also show up as a high idle.

Do you have a CEL? The MAF typically will throw P0170 and P0173. You can remove it and spray the wire with CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner. This might fix your problem but the if the MAF is bad it should throw the codes.

taking it to a shop and having it fixed, over and done with. period.

NOW.... i have a Fuel Distributor issue on the 911......... and the hits just keep on coming eh guys?.... WTF. :mad:

anyone have a FD for a 74 lying around?

P0171 is a vac leak before the throttle body (lean due to maf)

P0171 is a vague lean code.

Do a Google search for "Mercedes Bulletin 2008020002"

It may be your problem, and should be covered by MB.

i have the c230 at the shop and i got a lovely laundry list of things that are wrong....... i just need a reference point to bounce questions off of... i dont know the shop or the guy so i dont want to get hosed.......

or anyone that KNOWS about mbz's...... need a lil insight guys....
