I was quite surprised to find out the rotors and pads were made in China !!! WTF . To be honest I wouldn't have been surprised if they were made in Canada or maybe Mexico ( that would not have been better ) but China really pisses me off ! This country is competitive on a global scale we need to get back to being a producer of goods !!!! End of rant.

Then stop *****ing and do something about it.Did you keep them or return them?

Since China has just stolen plans for our latest fighter plane & a bunch of other military hardware via the internet, we'll be buying those from them soon at a discount soon.

Wood products!

RWebb 07-16-2011 09:29 PM

not much

we grow the wood (lumber) here; then they ship the raw logs to Asia; they make it into products and ship it back over here & we buy it

real smart, right?

Kirby vacuum at almost 2000 bucks. Thanks goodness I was able to return it. I am still using our made in China Costco job.

Just remember it's business not personal. If we could adjust the cost of everything down and than adjust salaries to match China,India and Mexico etc. Yeah I know good luck with idea.

john70t 07-16-2011 10:58 PM

That idea will sell, eventually, to the minds of U.S consumers.
Perhaps out of necessity.
Certainly not a plan which anyone would claim responsibility for.

The Chinese "wealthy" are complaining about products made from other countries as well.

Zippo lighters...the best product guarantee around.

The shop I work at makes stuff in the US everyday although it is not finished product. It is still being done but much more scarce and rarely anything is made complete here.

JTO 07-17-2011 06:17 AM

Randy
Ive been making wood-based products for almost 20 years; first dissolving pulp then MDF. Both plants were/are leader in what they did/do. Even in this nasty regulatory environment.

The invitation is there, but the product won't be available for interstate commerce. That would be a violation of federal regulation. It's a fight over the 10th and states rights. Mr. Pointy Boots (Perry) can't stand the fed, and loves to push back. I like it, but seriously doubt a manufacturer is willing to take on the challenge given a potential fed violation.

Here is the answer.

Is anything made in the U.S.A. anymore? You'd be surprised - The New York Times

Basically, the products made in the US tend to be high-value, complex, for commercial or industrial use. Also packaged food, drugs, and chemicals tend to be made in the US. Low-value, simple, or consumer goods tend to be made elsewhere. The last bit - consumer goods - is why most people perceive that the US no longer makes anything. As of 2007 the US was by far the biggest producer of manufactured products. US manufacturing slumped in the Great Recession but has come back strongly.

John, I own a cabinet, shop remodeling co. We make things everyday. But the lumber are often from another country like Mahogany, Beech, or imported plywood like Baltic Birch. Hinges and hardware are made in Austria or Mexico. I am not sure what to make of it anymore. I try to sell some of my older clients with made in So Cal. Most appreciated, but younger folks could care less.

Oh, 2/3 of my work force are also imported.

I was at Kohls the other day and bought some New Balance shoes. To my surprise the wide sizes are USA made. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/clap.gif

This is what I mean... it's too complicated to simply say "buy American".

Does it really matter? The English and the French may have been sing this song and dance 50 years ago. China will be saying the same thing 50 years later. The bottom line is if its a good product, what difference does it make? I like products to be made in this country and try and but them to keep our economy going. We all own import cars right? There are some China stuff I wouldn't buy, but I buy a computer monitor from China anyday of the week over one that's made in Spain or France (maybe a bad example, I am sure they don't make one).

Can you tell the difference between the NB over the made in China Adidas running shoe while running for the bus? Do any of you really think there's a big difference between a shoe that's made by a bunch of south of the borer immigrants (I assume this) over a shoe that's made by a bunch of Chinese in a crowded factory?
