to me, border's wasnt a real bookstore, anyway. powell's in portland, and the numerous small niche bookstores are all the more interesting to me. throw amazon in the mix, and it's absolutely no surprise that those stores are going away. free shipping with Prime, no sales tax, and the lowest prices around. i order at least 3 times a week from amazon and constantly have books showing up at my place. it takes a day or two to have the book in my hands from when i hit the "one click order" button on amazon.

I buy a fair number of books, and do not recall ever shopping at Borders. Apparently I'm not alone.

We will know more in 3-4 days. Thats all I can say about it right now...

I go to my Borders in Pasadena when I have to wait for clients up that way. Every time I go in there, I always buy a cycling mag. Excellence, or some type of Porsche rag. Of course a cup of joe is a must. I haven't been there in a few months, I should check sometime this week.

Before Borders, there were the mom and pop book stores with all types of cool newspapers and magazines from all over the place. Now those are gone, Borders is next. Too bad. I love to have a place to hang out and wait for meeting with clients. I hate waiting at a coffee shops where everyone is having sex with their computers. I want to buy a magazine so I can have something to read in the can when I get home. Too bad.

I moved to Ann Arbor, MI when I was 13. Before that I lived in a tiny town called South Lyon nearby. In the 70's, my parents would pack us in the VW bus and take us into Ann Arbor for ice cream and a trip to Borders Books. I was young, but recall being just blow away with the selection of books, and how 'new' some of them were. Amazing graphics, and science books that we just didn't have in the small town where we lived. It was an amazing book store. Huge for its time. Sad to see a source of knowledge become obsolete.
