McNally's the only place to eat, IMO. Wild is right. I had the chance to run Limestone up river a couple of times in an oar boat with a couple of river rats. I had to swim a class 4 once. Not fun.

Newhall pass? Are you sure? That reservoir across the I-5 is treated water.

Castaic lake and Pyramid Lake are pump storage for sure.

They have huge "out take" pipes about 10 miles downstream that pumps the water back up at night to flow again during the day to generate electricity, just like the one in the aqueduct in the Newhall Pass.

Where you see the cascade on the Sylmar side of the pass, they pump the water back up at night and let it run back down during peak energy hours during the day. My friend is an electrician who installed the "lightshow" you see on the cascade.

Craigster:
I also wondered what those pipes were! So is that both a powerhouse and a pumping station, because I can't think of any other mechanical structure on that part of the river. Also, where does it re-enter up stream?

Sorry - I love this stuff for some reason.

Takes it just a bit north toward Riverkern. You can see it here...
