Ever run away from home?

Saw a scene this morning that reminded me of my childhood. Young kid walking down the street at about 9;30, carrying his suitcase. Shortly after, his mom yelling for him, and the police showing up, they talked him into going back home.
I think we all tried to run away at some point. I remember grabbing up a small bag of clothes, a bag of chips , my bb gun, and jumping on my schwinn to head for the freedom highway. I hung out in the woods for a couple of hours, got hungry, and came home.
Knowing what I know now, I should have stayed with mom and pop forever.

Heh heh. I thought about it once when I was probably 8 - 10. My big plan was to take a jar of peanut butter and a loaf of bread. I think I "threatened" to run away. Not really the way to do it, but it spurred my dad to say that if I did, not to ever come back, because he wouldn't let me in.

Tough love.

It worked.

I ran away once but my wife drug me back, she came to Costa Rica, told me if I stayed there any longer I would have to get a different wife, I told her if I stayed I wouldn't need a wife. But I came home.

I threatened to, when I was 8 or 9.

My dad made me up one of these for me (for real, it looked like this), and said something like "Good luck, and watch out for the hobos and carnys."

I changed my mind and never made it past the front door.

I remember building a little "emergency getaway" kit as a kid. Kind of like a "bug out bag" as imagined by a 10 year old. I had it in shoe box. Money, pocketknife, fishing line and hooks, sewing kit, matches, my boy scout handbook, that's all I remember...

Actually that wasn't too bad, figured I could build a lean-to shelter with pine bow's (did that all the time) and fish and trap for food....

Never did use it though. :D

Oh Haha 07-25-2011 03:27 PM

Oh yeah.

I was probably around 9 or 10. I packed some stuff in a suitcase(I don't remember WHAT, though),
took off down the street, went into the woods where we rode bikes for a couple of hours and then came home.

I'm pretty sure I was mad at my mother for not letting me do something I wanted to do.

I did when I was 5 years old. My mother & I had a disagreement, and I said I was going to run away. Whe said, "fine." I packed some clothes in a cardboard box, poked a hole in the side & tied a rope through it. I dragged it around the house and when I passed the kitchen window where my mother was washing dishes, I told her I was leaving now. She said, OK. So after dragging my box around the house a few times saying I was leaving & her saying it was OK, I went around one more time and said I was really leaving this time. So I started down the road dragging my box behind me in the dirt. About half a block from home, I looked back to see my mother running toward me carrying a switch. She used that to hit me with until we got back home. I never tried to run away again.

my sister threatened to run away from home one time - I offered to help her pack a suitcase

parents got a big kick out of that -- told the story for years

WHAT ME LEAVE HOME!!!!!!!

Mother and Daddy came to TABS and said. "TABS we have had enough of you, here are the keys to a house we bought you."

Of course I have cleaned up the actual dialogue in an effort to be compliant with the new effort at being polite on this Board.

Thinking about it.

Nope, I loved my mom's cooking way too much.

I threatened to do it plenty of times and might have even left the house for good a few times.

Well until it became dark...

Mickey Boyd and I hatched a plan to steal two mini bikes and drive them from Seattle to L.A.. Plan was going perfectly till we discovered the lawn mower shop where we were getting the mini bikes had an alarm system in it. Once he heard we were running away from home the shop owner refused to press charges as long as we repaired the broken glass in the door we had entered thru. He figured we were in enough trouble and didn't want to compound it with a breaking and entering charge.

A couple times. I guess I'm too nice to my kid because he's 17 now and never did. I'm worried he'll go to college local and never leave :o

A couple years ago one of my son's friends ran away to our house. I think he was a bit bummed to find out my son who "got to do anything" was grounded from the computer that week. I let him spend the night to cool off, a school night, but made him call his mom.

I was aloud to & did. Of course I got, "Don't cross the highway" LOL, which I didn't and walked back home. Actually one of my better childhood memories.

This is why I love this forum. The humor :D. Just what a guys needs at the end of the day.
I don't think the CC made it to the keyboard, but it was close.

Yep, at about 6 or 7, I'd had enough, the brother, the dad, the mom, the dishes, the yard.....everything, right out the door, at night. Made it all the way to the street before I thought breakfast might be more important..:D
