Recovering e-mails
I have a new computer running Windows Mail.
My old hard drive is in the same machine with all my old e-mails and contacts from another version of Windows Mail. How do I access the old data? What files? Thanks KT |
What OS is the old system? It's in different locations...
|
If Vista or 7, it should be here...
C:\Users\*USER*\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail |
Vista old, 7 new.
thanks! KT |
I don't see 'AppData' in either drive.
Any chance it's hidden? KT |
BTW, the AppData dir is hidden...
With an explorer window open, click on Organize -> Folder and Search Options -> Select "View" -> hit the radio button that says "Show hidden files, folders and drives". When done moving things, repeat the above steps and change it back to "Don't show..." |
I see the files.
What should I do?!? KT |
If you want, copy the files from the Win7 install to a backup directory first. Make sure Windows mail is closed first. Then copy the old files to the new location. Open WM and your email should be there. Not sure what will happen to the ISP settings... May have to redo that.

Use the import function, and generally, it will look at the old hardrive and find the store of them. If not, point it to the correct directory on the old drive.

Importing...
