At my request, I am transferring back into one of the most active violent areas of LA. I will be working the graveyard shift. I miss the "managed chaos"!

How is your son doing? I recall a thread he was looking to follow in your footsteps as a Marine.

My son just got past the first hurdle to get into VMI on a Marine ROTC ride.

I have said before: My Dad was Army, I was Navy and he wants to be a Marine...I don't know if we are evolving or de-evolving.

As with Rika, I know that drug well. I am finally, at least to some extent, pushing myself away from that table. But yeah, stress is a powerful addiction. And.....somebody's got to do it.

I don't even like to drive through LA on a freeway, much less working the streets with the filth and evil.
Keep yer head down and keep safe. Lots of bad in that area, not enough good.

Remember, the cops in LA have been taught it is OK to kill-on-sight if you have a gun (without a badge).

Paul, my 15 year old son wants to be a Marine Officer in Special Forces (MARSOC). Thanks for asking my friend. I am sure you are very proud of your boy!

Your service to our country is nothing short of outstanding. I will be safe. After 22+ years in law enforcement, I still believe 98% of the people out there are good, hard working people. I am an optimist by nature, and always look for the good.

You are LAPD, right? My good friend Ray, he's now a firearms instructor at the academy in Elysian park. He use to say he will go back into the action where he can really make a difference. I can't thank you guys enough for keeping my family safe. Be safe out there.

Also have your son check out the Combat Control Teams (Air Force). Very elite fighting force, very hard to get into, very difficult technical schools. They go in BEFORE the point of the spear. If he is looking for elite, these guys are it!
