Another police beating caught on tape

Makes you wonder how prevalent this really is. Has it diminished in the wake of all of these recorded incidents? I wonder how bad it was back in the day before video.

Caught on tape: Vegas cop beats videographer - CBS News

It is a vicious circle: they film, they get beat, which makes more videos of police beatings caught on tape!

wdfifteen 08-02-2011 07:31 PM

the cop asked, "Do you live here?" and the guy said, "No." It wasn't until the cop acted on that response that the guy said it was his house. I can see where the popo was confused. On the other hand, the only crime he could have potentially committed was trespassing, but with no one to complain, how did they know he wasn't a guest?

..........and cops people wonder why they are so hated.

look 171 08-02-2011 08:54 PM

That makes me so angry. Like most kids, I hated coops. As I grew older, my tune changed a lot. A couple of my good friends are cops. They go in as good people, as soon as they get a taste of blood, they change for the worst. I always question them. they do not like it one bit. the answer I always hear is the same. " I don't care who's right, you do as the officer tells you" They are detectives now, but the thinking is still the same. I still remember when I was 19, trying to fix my POS car for college on a Sunday evening at my parent's house. These *********s come up to me and ask me to craw out from under the car. As soon as my head's out they shine the flash lights right in my eyes and would not let go. I block the light and said, the light's bright and it blinding me. Is it really necessary. One of them pulled me by my shirt as I was getting out from under and shoves me against my car and whacks me with his flashlight right on my ribs and said," I ask the questions, not you. It is necessary". Damn, that hurt like hell, as I was not expecting it. I didn't do anything and they were just driving by. this is a small residential street. My next door neighbor saw what happened and scream from the top of his lungs. He knows I am a good kid and he threaten to report them, so those *********s backed off. He was a retired lawyer and wanted to file a complain. I refuse because I just did not have the time and the energy. Now I know why I don't like them too much. Some of them are all right, most don't want to do $hit.

As much as he may well have a legal right to film, why didn't he just turn off the camera?!

I can't defend the officer's actions, but I don't understand what was so exciting to film. Nothing that was worth even having a discussion about, let alone a beating. Both parties behaved like fools from what I can see.

Why should he turn off the camera?!

Frigging arseholes, you would be better dealing with the burglars yourself.

9dreizig 08-03-2011 07:57 AM

That cop better be charged with assault and battery!!

cashflyer 08-03-2011 08:02 AM

People have a right to free speech, but those with nothing interesting or pertinant to say should just keep their mouths shut.

Is that the same logic?

andyt11 08-03-2011 08:20 AM

As I said, I'm not defending the cops actions but.....

Why didn't he turn it off and why did he lie about where he lived?

sc_rufctr 08-03-2011 08:24 AM

Nothing new here. The cops have always taken liberties like this.
They do the best they can but...

For a minute just imagine doing their job. :(

scottbombedout 08-03-2011 08:24 AM

Why did he lie? The cop said 'do you live here?' the guy answered no. Perhaps he thought the cop was meaning the place that had been burgled.

When you say 'I'm not defending the cops actions but.....' I think that really means you are defending the cops actions............

andyt11 08-03-2011 08:33 AM

I'm just trying to understand why people behave like this. And by people I mean the camera guy. The beating was not at all justified, but I just don't understand why anyone would do anything other than answer the questions and be cooperative.

Was the camera man that desperate to film a boring scene in which he has no business, or was he looking for trouble?! It must have been one of the two. Which is it?

I mean, I agree he has the right to film things he has no business in, but tell me why he wanted to so badly, that he could not cooperate.

vash 08-03-2011 08:42 AM

i am around alot of cops.

there are different levels. the ones going with a policeman career as their "plan A"; those seem to be GREAT cops.

you get down to the fool sitting on the couch, no career plans, no life plans..and he digs deep to "plan G" and becomes a cop..not always the best cop.

just an observation.

i couldnt be a policeman. i would OD on the power in about 5 seconds..zero to powertripping in 5 seconds. glad i didnt need to use my "plan G"

A lot of cops should have been so introspective.

Colling has been on paid suspension since April 1 and could be fired pending the outcome of a review by the officer's supervisors, the newspaper reported.
Is this the "paid vacation" they speak about?

It is about transparency. Police errr Law Enforcement Agencies are supposed to follow a code of conduct and operate as public servants. In doing so they have to understand they are always under scrutiny by the public -- that means their actions [good or bad] will be reviewed. Unfortunately so many have forgotten this and operate under their own guidelines...

My layman's understanding is "paid leave" means they really screwed up and will probably be fired while "without pay" means they screwed up and the punishment is not being paid while on leave.
