my I-Phone died today.....any ideas why ?

Yesterday I went to turn on my I-Phone and it came on but it was " stuck " on reboot. All the screen showed was the Apple logo. No matter what I tried couldn't get it to unfreeze. I left it on overnight and this morning it was dead. Plugged it into the charger and the battery was very low with a red indicator but would not charge. Seems to me the battery might be bad. I'm stopping by the AT&T store near me after work to see if anything can be done. Phone is about 4-5 years old. Rock solid up until yesterday. Any ideas ?

"Seems to me the battery might be bad."

Yeah, electronic don't like low voltage. Just throw a new battery in there. -oh wait.

Hold the sleep and power buttons down together until it reboots. That seems to clear up a lot of issues.

I would try the hard reboot as mentioned above.

Plug in USB cable to computer.
Make sure you hear the 'tone' that the computer recognizes the device. If not, try another usb port.

Hold power and sleep buttons down at the same time for a long time - even up to a couple of minutes until the apple appears. If the apple appears quickly, keep holding it until it appears again.

Generally, this will force the phone to reboot.

If it is the battery, you can change it yourself for a few bucks with the ebay / internet replacement kits.

OK when I got home today I did the hard reboot. It appears that it worked however it also looks like the real problem is a dead battery. I'll do a Google search but how do you replace the battery in this phone ? Thanks for the help guys.

Try looking here. Looks like you need to know how to solder. Not fun.

4-5 years is a very good life for a Li-ion battery. Time for a new one.

Stopped by the local AT&T after work today. They confirmed dead battery but of course they don't do any service on any phones. Apple wants 79.99 to replace the battery so instead I bought another I-Phone. Exact same phone for 49.99. I figure I'll buy the 6.00 replacement battery online and try to save the other phone. If I can fix it I'll have a spare or I'll sell it. Thanks for the help guys.
