MATCH whoop azz spoon

yep the 3rd and final(?) installment, of M1-A's goes from a mild mannered "loaded" stainless barrel w/factory black stock...................................to:

1) mcmillian f/glass bedded stock

2) all the super match goodies that i took off my super match when i UBER UBER UBERIZED the super match into the freeking STRATOSPHERE!

3) then it went to arringtonaccuracy.com here local. phil hand fitted the national match front and rear sights, did a butter trigger job, bedded it, and generally handfit every damn part on this.


since i have known phil for years , at the last feb match i asked him if he had any mcmillian stocks. he replied yes.......ONE! it was left over from the USA SHOOTING TEAM rifle build. i dont think i have to remind you the cost of a mcmillian stock and bedding. suffice it to say i kicked my kids azz into mega warp high gear, to buck up and do this NOW! as this was a once in a lifetime inexpensive way for him to get into the realm of a true match rifle. no foo foo mall ninja,tac-ti-cool crap.


this is going to get the ARMS scope QD scope mount and whatever scope the kid can afford down the road. toooo simple to go from a regulation MATCH RIFLE CONFIG................to a very viable and dead nutz accurate hunting spoon.

"no" i dont know if its 1" MOA or 1/2" MOA

"no" i dont know how many clicks up is battlefield zero

"no" i have never shot one a 1000yds iron sighted

"no" i have never shot an elk with a m-14

"no" i have never shot a deer with a m-14

"no " i dont know how to clean one


the target shown was off hand shot by phil at 200yds with just crap ammo. aka..............he didnt put a hell of alot of effort into it as if it were a match, all he wanted to do was fire for function and check his work. i think the kid is gonna be damn happy with some federal 168 BTHP MATCH ammo.

I scored a deal on 200 rounds of LC Match ammo a while back at a show... traded off all but 2 boxes, shot one in my first FAL (Century POS w/ Green Mountain barrel - pretty accurate), have one left to shoot in my current FAL.

I'd skip my FAL and send it your way but shipping ammo is such a PITA

now if ya wanna a firestorm of an argument. pair off a sniper(real deal military) and a qualified match shooter.

match shooters can and DO SPLIT HAIRS! groups are measured by dial calipers. every round is put on a dial caliper. some reload their own "wild azz cocktail" honed to them and them alone. chronographed to beat all hell. after every shot the barrel gets cleaned and allowed to cool down. and no bad guys shooting back in the comfort of a range in nice weather.


snipers on the other hand are in the armpit of the world. they do get shot at BIG TIME! they are cold,they are hot, the weather sucks, their spoon is dirty,they are dirty,they got monkeybutt from humping a gazzillion miles. their tired,they hate life, they hate the enemy. and they have a very poor poor bad attitude which = "lets kill the bastid bad guy and get the hell outta here!"


most hunters on the other hand go to wally world or cabelas, buy the baddest azz mega whomper spoon, get a ga-zigga power optic, shoot the damn thing about 2 hrs a year if that, and are happy if they can hit the broad side of a barn with their groups and call it quits.


now what you see in the above pic is damn close to what a grunt DM(designated marksman) would be issued if in afghan or iraq. less the militarys choice of optic.


its capable of and WILL SHOOT 1/2"MOA all day if the shooter is qualified and knows his stuff. we built this with the fact in mind that this will OUTSHOOT my kid for many many years to come before he jumps into the high dollar UBER SUPER DUPER MATCH splitting hairs, rifle arena like his dads(mine).

this was built around using federal 168gr BTHP MATCH ammo. not 175gr military ammo.


told the kid last night to shoot 147gr cheap azz ammo for practice and plinking and for hunting or a match..............168gr federal. period.

when i get home from work today im gonna rub down his weller sling with some olive oil and mount the sling for him. swab down the barrel and have it all ready for when he gets back home. for a 22 yr old kid to plunk down the initial cost himself of the spoon, his 5rd mags and his 20 rd mags and a couple of 25rd mags, a sniper drag case and then he paid phil $1377 bucks to wave his magic wand over it.................the kid is damn serious about the sport. on top of me dumping all of my discarded super match parts into his spoon, wez gots some serious dough into this damn thing already

Shipping brass is trivial ... perhaps I will run that last box thru the FAL w/ the gas closed off and save 'em all and send 'em to ya ...

FWIW its the late '60s vintage stuff w/ the 168grn loads ... The Privi Partisan "match" also seems to be as good based on the one box I put thru the CAI FAL ...

finding LC anything any caliber is a hit and miss proposition around here. im sitting on a bunch of LC .30 carbine and some .308. its a pain to find here.



LC brass is damn near a freeking "ICON" around here.
