sammy's hijack deserves his own thread.
|
Yes, it does and he is!!!
|
This is one of my favorites. I believe he was 9 when this was recorded, can you imagine jamming with B.B. and buddy at that age?

This is when he was first discovered playing live fronting a band, at age 5. First grade.
A guy asked for his autograph and he could barely write his name! <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ykdt0XVcdiI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Weird. Something positive from Sammy that's not about.....Sammy.

New stuff from Quinn Sullivan at age 12 on the Kimmel show. Looks like he's starting to develop his own sound, certainly more polished and individual:

Come on Superman, no need to start that.

Taken in that context it wasn't that bad. that's all behind us, for now ;) |
I just saw a guy named John Bonamassa on KCET the other night, a special where he played at Prince Albert Hall in London and Eric Clapton had a cameo shot. I never heard of him and thought he was pretty good, any of you know of him?
Sorry for the hijack of Sammy's hijack |
Haven't posted anything about Q.S. for a while, this was a few months ago, age 12.

It's good to know someone is ready to step into some of the greats shoes and carry on. I hope he can maintain some purity. He has honed a nice voice as well. Sounds like he might evolve into a good tenor.
|
absolutely unbelievable, awesome...Eric Clapton, go home your out of here, we have someone to replace you besides you have more money than God, spread it around some.

I just wanted to hijack Sammy's hijack thread :). There's a thread or two on here about Joe Bonamassa. I was lucky enough to catch Derek Trucks play his first public gig when he was nine years old back in the day. Two years later, Derek was eleven, and opened for "Lightning" Joe Bonamassa at a big outdoor gig. Joe, 13 at the time, was channeling Stevie Ray and other blues greats...it was pretty jaw dropping for me, and I've seen a BUNCH of great guitarists over the years

..Quinn Sullivan Soars To Number 4 Spot On Billboard Blues Chart In Advance of Appearance On The Tonight Show With Jay Leno
Young Musician continues to Turn Heads and Gain Momentum Press Release: SuperStar Records – Mon, Aug 19, 2013 12:58 PM EDT NASHVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- After his Billboard Hotshot Debut at number 14, guitar prodigy Quinn Sullivan has more than doubled his chart position in just two weeks. Now sitting at the number four position, Sullivan proves once again he can hold his own against the masters of the genre. With his mentor Buddy Guy two spots above (after debuting at number one) and Gary Clark Jr just one place away at number 3, Sullivan is certainly Getting There, as the title of his SuperStar Records debut attests. To cap off a summer of high profile television appearances, Sullivan and his band will play the closing set on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno on August 26th. Consistent with Sullivan's commitment to including his fans wherever possible he has asked them to tell him which song he should sing from his new album Getting There on his official website, quinnsullivanmusic.com, Facebook and Twitter. "I have to thank all the fans who have come out to my shows, gone to the record stores, and visited my iTunes page for downloads and review," said Quinn Sullivan. "This has been the best summer and it is only going to get better with next week's gig on Jay Leno. As a thank you to all the people who have supported me I want to play what they want to hear. I'm taking suggestions for what I should play on Leno over on Facebook and Twitter so let your voice be heard!" John L. Heithaus, Managing Partner of SuperStar Records said: "when we released Getting There, we knew the market was ready for Quinn – and what's happened this summer has exceeded even our most ambitious plans! It's all due to Quinn, his very supportive family, Buddy Guy's ongoing mentorship and, of course, Quinn's fans all over the globe." Getting There is available at your local music store and many online outlets including iTunes. |
I own 300 shares, time to buy some more!
Oh wait, wrong thread. :D |
Saw Quinn with Buddy Guy and Jonny Lang.
Quinn is technically gifted, but his playing is soulless. And he can't sing. It was hard seeing him on the stage with Buddy Guy who is such a charismatic player. And it was cruel having him follow Jonny Lang who has staggering talent and puts more blues into a note than Quinn can put into a set. He'll have a great career as a studio musician. Solo?... Yawn. |

Quinn developing into an artist with his own style.
About time, he's almost 15. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/_Z-3WiEn7cs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

When Lang was 19 he was born again in rehab after a long bout with drug and alcohol abuse that nearly killed him. |
Quinn is growing up, developing, has learned the key blues word, subtle. And has learned to share the stage.
impressive. My favorite part starts around 17 minutes. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/4tD0-i7SQxc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/jrBtzTsj6Y0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
It's been fun watching this kid grow up.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2pOZtoASSVQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> he's singing a lot better now that his voice has changed. He's still a guitar player tho. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/CEVuQkZwZ6U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
when he was 15
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/xXnfAHdd9aI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Quinn is boring. Yes, impressive for his age. But take away that, suppose he's a 25 y/o guy, and he wouldn't be remarkable. There are many good guitar players out there. Studio player is right.
The other guy, Lang, to be honest I thought in the video he spent more time playing with his hair than playing his guitar, but clearly more emotion than the studio player. |
he looks boring in Sammy's vids because he's surrounded by a bunch of old man studio musicians with no soul. typical of the modern blues scene. blech.
it is awkward to watch but that's the crowd he's being marketed to. I mean 'Blue Moon' beer? my goodness how sterile and soulless can you get? would be tough for anyone to bring life to such a setting. |
Still playing ...

I saw Johhny Lang when he was 16 (I think)...opening for BB and Robert Cray.... it was all about his hair then too....LOL. That said....I saw Derek Trucks (and wife) two summers ago....thirty years after the first time. An unbelievable show and his playing is now up there with the best I've ever seen live...bar none. And just a nice guy too :)

Been a while since I had seen an "Onlycafe" thread. Sincerely hope he is doing OK.
