streaming video - argh!

Been fighting with streaming video to iPhones, etc. Argh!

Sucks that Apple puts out a product that can't understand other Apple products (iPhones, etc can't connect to and stream from a QuickTime Streaming Server or Darwin Streaming Server). Been doing all sorts of funky stuff trying to get a http stream that works... can play it using VLC no issues, but nothing on iPhone...

ARGH!

Garage
What are you trying to do?

I stream from PC to iPhone/pad all the time.

I use StreamToMe (ServeToMe). As well as several others over the years.

Using Linux for the server.

VLC grabs from the webcam, transcodes to mp4 format, packetizes it, and sends it off to a Darwin Streaming Server as a stream of packets. A SDP file is requested, and (old school) Quicktime or VLC kicks in and plays it. About a 13 second delay. Works great.

But i-things don't do RTSP. Or Flash video. I can re-grab the stream with VLC again on the DSS box and re-output it as a HTTP stream with a few different muxers, and I can use various codecs, I've tried all sorts of combinations.

I guess I'm gonna have to break down and ask the guys that wear ties for some $$ to spend on this for a change....
