New Plasma TV??
 

Last Friday we were burglarized. They cleaned us out. TV's, 3 computers, game system, most of my guns and most of my wifes jewelry, and my son's air brush compressor. So now I'm in TV and computer shopping mode. I saw a 51" Plasma at Sam's club. I have heard about the issues with Plasma not lasting but also have heard that the new Plasma's set are much better with longer life. Any truth to that??

My understanding was those concerns were on early plasma screens, new ones have done a lot to correct the problems (burn in, power, etc) experienced by early machines. Within the last couple months Maximum PC did a trial between plasma and LCD and not surprisingly the plasma was the clear winner.

Just got a *very* nice 55" samsung LED at sams, 1500. Comes w/ wireless and lots of inputs, very happy with it.

I have a fairly new Sharp LED Quattron TV. I really like the picture quality. Very easy to look at.

But I hope it lasts longer than my Sony BRAVIA... I had it for just over 3 years before the back light failed.

I own both leds and plasmas. I did research and the best picture is with a plasma. Panasonic make some nice ones. There are some adavantages and disadvantages to both types. As far as wearing out, you will be looking for a new tv before that ever happens.

So now we have LCD, LED and Plasmas... Someone point me to a chart that shows pros and cons/ streghths and weakness/ or which one is best for what...

LCD and LED are basically the same, but the LED uses a LED light source (duh) and has blacker black and whiter white. Plasma is a different beast...

I think the LED is better for high motion without blurring, etc. Dunno for sure, since the wife hasn't let me hook my computer up to ours to play Quake on... yet.

Love my Panasonic 40 inch plasma have owned it for about 6 months. Picture quality is fantastic. They have a glass screen vs. plastic so if the room has a lot of natural light glare may be an issue. I think they tend to run a little warmer than LED/LCD.

fwiw: An LED TV is just an LCD panel with added LED edge or controlled LED array back lighting to enhance dynamic range of the image.

I have a 50 or 52" samsung plasma, caint remember which.
I bought it for the high picture quality and am very happy with it.

But ....... when it's on his rez it gets very warm and uses more spark-tricity. It can heat a room on a mild evening.

I usually keep it on low rez unless I want to see something special, then I kick it up.

I have a Panasonic 50" Plasma that is about 4 yrs old. Running perfect, zero issues and is still the best quality picture in the house. The other TV's are 42" Panasonic plasma, 42" Magnavox LED and 36" Samsung LCD. I still think plasma has better black levels and does not have any issues with high speed motion where as lower quality LCD may suffer from motion blurring unless the refresh rate is above 120 hz.

The main difference affecting my use anyway was that plasma TVs don't have a matte finish on the screen. In a room with a lot of windows you may run into reflection problems with a plasma, with the windows reflected on the glossy screen.

Colors appear better IMO with plasmas though, so it's sort of a tradeoff.
