to ebay or not?

Everyone. Want to sell my turbo and have not had much luck finding the right deal on pelican site. How has Ebay treated any of you selling a car on their site? I have not sold a car on ebay in 8-9 years so not sure if I should be doing this or that to prevent scams etc. FYI looking to get into a newer 911 based car for further product develoment maybe even a 996 with a bad engine whatever.

thanks

I've sold around 5 cars on ebay.

Every single one of them worked out great. I got way above my reserve for each of them, buyers promptly wired the money, I Fed Ex'd the titles, and the buyers had a truck at my house within a week for pickup.

With ebay, to get top price for your car, it's all about the ad. Lots of big clear pictures (inside outside top to bottom) complete information presented in proper English with no typos, etc.

Mine went really well ...but that was 3 years ago. Times change. I opened a separate checking account for the wire transfer, not connected with any of my other accounts. Had the monet sent wire transfer to that account as soon as it cleared I closed the account. Done

+1

I look through 944's for sale on ebay in case there is anything out there I want to add to my collection, detailed pictures go a long ways to getting my interest. Especially any fasteners exposed on the underside(Clutch bell housing, torque tube, transmission, suspension bushing.)

Selling a car or a diamond ring is simply getting the merchandise if front of the buyer willing to pay what you need. Pelican gets a couple thousand views. PCA ads get more than that. eBay gets more than that.

It's in the math. If you don't like eBay, do the next best thing. But you need exposure.

Now if you can get Lady Gaga to take it for a spin, you'll beat all of the above for numbers. The audience might not be Turbo buyers though, so that's another angle.

Kinda why all the car dealers are in one area. Buyers go to that area.

I've sold at least a half dozen cars on eBay with only positive experiences. You just have to be careful and don't take anything for granted.

That being said, my only caveat would be that eBay will truly give you the market value of your vehicle whether you think it's good or bad. Basically, if you value your vehicle too high, eBay will tell you so and vice versa. Bluebook and personal opinions aside, a vehicle is only worth what someone will pay for it.

My experience on eBay was positive. I didn't know what I was doing at first. I wanted $20k for the RV and put an $18k reserve on it. It was a no sale, with only a handful of bids. I put it back up the next week with a reserve of $10k and got 25 bids or so and sold it for $22k. Do some research on what works before you list it.

I sort of agree with the above statements, that E bay is the market, with the exception of the really special cars. It hits the widest range of buyers, and cars will move if priced accordingly .
I bought and sold a bunch over the years through e bay, and have had good luck .

Thanks guys I am going to try craigslist locally and try another ad on pelican. I am in no hurry to sell it just needed feedback. I seriously considered parting it out to a roller but that is a new level of hassle try to ship and engine and tranny etc.
