There is an aftermarket Tremec 6 speed available that is built to handle over 700 horsepower. Guys with high horsepower mods to both older & newer Mustangs are reporting good results. Most of these guys tossed out any warranty hopes long ago. So, they understand things break.

It's the ones who buy a new car, opt to keep it stock as a fun driver with no track use that I have more sympathy for.

Again, tho not the same problem, some similarities between the Cayman owners and the Mustang owners...Customers not happy.

Also, ALL car makers seem to be more into denying warranty claims these days.

Agreed as well, but then again, NO company today is the same as it's ever been. Time marches on and products evolve, sometimes for the better, sometimes not.

I do think in this day and age a lot of what would be considered "normal" failure rates get blown out of proportion by a vocal few on some enthusiast BBS sites. Can you imagine the public outcry on the 911 tech board if this were 1986 and the interenet existed? "OMG, I need to new top end my brand new 3.2 and it only has 10,000 miles!!!" OR "Valve guides are wearing already? This company sure has gone down the tubes since they stopped building 356's ('cause of course they were perfect!)".

I guess what I'm saying is - sure the Co has changed, and they perhaps have gone a bit more mainstream than they used to be - but if they hadn't evolved, they likely would not be here today. IMHO, the boxster/cayman platform is one of the finest out there at any price - and there are some serious used car bargains to be had here. Talk about a high fun/$ ratio! Don't worry about the issues of a few and just enjoy the cars. I don't think they are any less reliable than the models that preceded it (though IMO, it did take them longer than necessary to address the RMS issue). For what it's worth, I have not had a single issue in my Caman S, and also had years of trouble free ownership in my 99 boxster as well.

They say that higher revved engines get oil up and into the intermediate shaft bearings, even though they are supposedly sealed units.
