This is how we build scaffold and truss and face it with foam and plaster. This is the end of National Treasure 2.

I read on another site that off-duty firefighters in the crowd, 150-200 yards away, said that the guy wires failed. They were also showing in hi-res pics from earlier in the day.
And here's an interesting breakdown of the time line. http://www.theindychannel.com/download/2011/0814/28862249.pdf |
I did'nt see any trusses holding the whole rig up. It was just supported on the beams. It's sad to see loss of life, but if I were standing near there at the time, I would have looked up to see the MASSIVE storm cloud coming at us. I would have said "it's time to seek shelter"The guy who worked up on the top, he should have been told to come down long before the wind. Maybe I'm just old, and I've seen these kinds of storms in the past, but to anyone else, GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WEATHER", It's not good.

unofficial report that the drum tech for radiohead was the person that lost their life-
|
I think that was made official on Saturday

I was walking onto a plane to go to Denver to see Rush at Red Rocks about three yrs. ago, when a buddy already in Denver called to say the show had been canceled due to weather. This was probably 8-10 hrs. before the show. When I got to Denver, the weather was fine. But they had had lightning and they had to make a decision before unloading all the gear. I was pretty bummed and I couldn't go back for the make-up show. But better safe than sorry.

Third on my list of ways to die on the job. Had two friends @ collapses last summer. Guitar tech for Cheap Trick, and drummer for Sugarland. I hope i don't have any close calls this summer. Oh, BTW
#1&2 are bus accident and airplane falling out the sky rapidly. |
The State of Indiana paid out hundreds of thousands to the survivors of those who lost a loved one. They quickly enacted new regulations which require the fire Marshall to approve overhead stage structures over a certain number of feet.
Some blame Sugarland for not cancelling. |

This was particularly outrageous Quote:

"Based on testing and calculation, it was determined the lateral load resisting system of the ISF
Structure as rigged on August 13, 2011 was capable of resisting winds speeds ranging from 25 miles per hour to 43 miles per hour (depending on wind direction)." "Even if the ballast system had provided sufficient resistance, the synthetic webbing ratchet straps and wire rope guy lines used did not have sufficient strength to resist forces resulting from the North wind case under the wind loads of August 13, 2011 that were of a smaller magnitude than the code-specified requirements." "Even if the ballast system and guy line system had provided sufficient strength to resist the wind loads, the “fin plate” connections to the structure did not have sufficient strength to resist forces resulting from the North, West and Northwest wind cases under the wind loads of August 13, 2011 that were of a smaller magnitude than the code-specified requirements." |
well here is another one--
