Guess what happened to this sweet golden?

Pictures are not great. Pics taken on the way to VET ER. The bride and I went out for dinner last thursday afternoon. Gone for 4 hours. Zoey will hang out in the back yard when its nice. We get home and it looks like she swallowed 2 softballs as her face and neck have swollen up.

So what do you think it was????

I have no idea, Guess... She got stung or bit by something? Scorpion, snake, gigantic bee?

Might want to get that checked ASAP...

I had her at the emergency vet by 10 pm that night and didnt get her back till the morning. Then she spent the day at our other vet for observation. Came home Friday night then went back to the vet for another half day of observation. She is doing fine now.

You gotta really love your dog to sign the paper work to have them administer anti venom. Holy Cow!

I dont mind paying the dough but when my neighbor chimmed in and said " dude, dogs are pretty much immune. if you had left it alone the dog would be fine in a week "

Um, actually, a lot of the time they are okay. Not totally immune, but usually don't die like we can.

Meh, RS was too easy. I was hoping for the exotic scorp... Glad the pooch is okay.

My vote is a bee sting and she's having an allergic reaction. My Golden was stung on the face and one side swelled largely. A dose of antihistamine from the emergency vet and he was fine.

You didn't give us time to guess. I knew what it was - I spent $$$ before on one of those. I'd say this one was fairly mild, but you have to treat them at least with fluids, you never know when the dog goes into shock from blood loss .

You should go to a snake avoidance clinic to keep the pooch out of the snakes. They usually are in spring. PM me and I can get you in touch with a guy who organizes one every year in May. She may be wise now, but never hurts to retrain - cheap insurance, especially if you run them off leash or back up to snake hill ...

I'm so sh***ty at games. I didnt give anybody a chance to guess.

Here is the culprit. Found him the next morning curled up right next to the door that leads from the family room to the backyard!

Neighbor is into snakes so we captured it and did snake show for the kids in the neighborhood. He took it out. Showed the kids what to do and not to do if you hear or see a snake.

Then we went and dumped him way down a dirt road out in the middle of no where.

Judi is pretty ticked because she figures the rattler cost her some new living room furniture.

Look at it from the bright side: The dog only stuck her head in there once.

Yep, he would have gone to snake heaven just for being in my yard! A .22 LR or .22 mag shot shell takes care of little "issues" like that!

I would have cooked him up too.
Cut into 1" pieces, dip in seasoned flour, egg wash, then corn meal. Let sit for 15 minutes, then into the fryer.

my father had a dog that was bitten several times by a rattler in Ariz.
The dog recovered mostly but had imune problems for about a year after until he finally passed.
Here's me hoping that won't be the case with your dog. He looks like he's doing fine.

Glad the dog came out of it well even though the wife may not get the new furniture. That snake looks a little small for a meal. I've seen only 4 of them around my place. Three of them were only about as big as your finger and approximately a foot or less long. The other one was over 3 feet & as big as my forearm. I didnt' feel like experimenting with that one. I don't kill them anyhway since they aren't around that much & eat rodents. The neighborhood kid education was a good idea.

I have to check our back yard every time before letting the dog out. There are Rattlers, Cotton Mouth and Water Moccasins and the pooch is a little hunter....
