What's the most death defying legal fun you can have close to home?

I was thinking electric unicycle but I guess I'd settle for a Segway (not death defying though). Might have to get a motorized razor scooter.

Remember, I live in the city, so I can't take off in my plane from my back yard like Tim H. can.

I've got excellent cave diving close to home here...

Failing that, classes at UF start on 8/22 - driving in town anywhere after this weekend will be death defying...

I was thinking, my morning commute, but strictly speaking, that's not legal.

In college we used to take a trip to Gatlinburg each year where we had mapped out 4 miles of tight twisty downhill road leading from the condos overlooking the town all the way down to town.... We took turns driving a pickup truck to the top hauling up our bicycles, then raced down the treacherous road that had too many corners to memorize. Big fun, but extremely dangerous with occasional oncoming cars and no protection from running off the side of the mountain to one's likely death or paralasis. Surely you could find some mountain roads in California to do the same.

My friends dad is part native American... his dad and brothers used to paddle a canoe over to Catalina.

They also have a water ski race to Catalina and back... those folks must have legs of steel! And they race behind cigarette boats, falling down at 60+ MPH must be painful.

You can start with a kayak trip to the Farallons.

In mid-July? Any of you run into your estranged father, perchance?

Riding the motorcycle is a sure adrenaline rush out here. On my last ride two different drivers try to run me off the road within a 12-mile distance.

In college we used to take a trip to Gatlinburg each year

In 1971, the day I went into the USMC, one of my triplet sisters was killed on the road between Sevierville and Gatlinburg, by a guy in a big ass pickup truck speeding and passing with no headlights at about 9PM, my other triplet sister and my younger brother were also in the 64-1/2 Mustang when it got hit. He literally ran over the driver's side of the car, killing her instantly.

Getting back on topic, I wouldn't classify it as "fun" but going for a walk just after sunset in South Central LA. I'm not sure it would be "death defying" however.
