5 months paid holidays

Posted a while back about my modest raise, 4K/year, I was a little chocked about it cause I was expecting way more than that but it dawned on me that I ended up with 5 months paid leave per year, for me thats a big WOW. Sure its still only 4K more a year but different things with my bonus will probably add up to an extra 20-30K/year.
I know times are tough for a lot of people and I don't want to insult anyone but I've never ever had paid holidays before, this is after 34 years in this racket and then to start with 5 months paid leave, I'm a little shocked, 5 months is unreal

I'd be worried about having that much leave without much more pay. When I'm working, I'm not traveling on my own dime. The company covers it all.

Wow,5 months paid holidays, I would give my left nut for 5 weeks. As I grow older in life, I would rather have more free time to live, than the money that I have been killing myself for my whole life. Good for you, make the best of it.

The company covers all my travel and expenses, medical and dental - eye care, in Canada the medical is basically free - 1200/year for the kid, wife and I but the dental, drugs, and eye care is big. I love time off and with pay its even better. All through the 90's I only worked about 4 months a year and took the rest off, I'm a pro at time off but to be paid for it is cool too.
I get paid a lot of money and to have it stretched out over the year - for me I think will be better but from never having paid holidays to getting 5 months is sureal for me.
Someone is paying me for 5 months to stay away from work, thats a concept I'm not used to.

What do you do that you're not needed for 5 months a year? Tax preparation business?

Mining, I run the drills for a mining company in Guyana, Columbia and Argentina, by my training I'm called a Diamond Driller, and yes I have drilled for diamonds-Kimberlite but the name comes from the diamond bits we use to cut the rock.

I''ll bet you work long hours and six or seven days a week when you're on the job.

Hugh, yep, 7 x 12-14/day, 210 days on and 155 off, camp situation at the head waters of the Amazon River, 220K/year + or- 10K, I'm skilled but bottom line still a lucky guy what gets me is the 5 months off with pay. I am expected to work on my time off but it works out to less than 10 hours/week - sometimes nothing but my time on the phone.
