Something for you Lefties..........
 

My son, who is left handed likes to shoot my Colt Woodsman, except for the right handed target grips that are on it. About 2-3 years ago I ran across a set of nice left handed target grips that were carved by a craftsman named Lew Sanderson who made grips in the 50s and 60s. The seller had put the grips on Gunbroker with the note that he did not know who made them or what they fit, only that he thought they were for a .22 auto. Anyway, I bought them for his min. price and stashed them away. I finally figured out that they were made for a High Standard Sport King pistol. I started looking around and found a nice 6 5/8" bbl High Standard, bought it and installed the grips. My son is coming for a visit and to help me finish the concrete floor in my new shop this weekend and is going to get a big surprise! Some pics.............

The right handed grips on the Woodsman are also by Lew Sanderson and were made for the Colt in 1950 or 1951! When I bought the Colt, I got lots of provenance with it including a post card saying that the grips would be ready soon! The Colt Woodsman Match Target is the one on the lower right.

Not exactly, I like COLT revolvers! Especially the ones made before WWII.

I can understand why he will love the effort you put into that..

Being a lefty I can relate. My dad gave me a ruger 22 cal. Target pistol with a a right handed grip I now shoot just as well right handed as left. Been practicing alot lately with G17s and G26s. Not much difference anymore.

on Sunday. The High Standard shot well, right to the point of aim, nice well centered groups. The only problem was that the pistol would lock the slide back after each shot. Turned out that the tiny spring that holds the slide lock in the off position was missing. When we got home, I ordered a replacement from Numrich (Gun Parts Co.). Once that is in place, all will be well with the world! My son's girlfriend went with us to the range. She had never fired a gun before so I took along a Colt Police Positive Target in .22 rf. It is a small frame revolver that is suitable for smaller hands. After the obligatory talk about gun safety rules and how to use the sights, she proceeded to shoot a couple of reasonable groups and even knock over a couple of steel plates. A good time was had by all.
