how do you pronounce fuchs?
dumb question, i know. I have been saying "fewks" but a friend says its just "fooks". Who knows the right way?
|
fooks.
|
Rhymes with 'books'.
BTW, if you only have one, you have one Fuchs, not Fuch. |
try your friends version..
using u... fuuks... if said properly it doesn't sound like that other word.. Rika |
I stand corrected
Thanks guys!

It's pronounced "fooks".... fuchs means fox in German.
That was an easy one. Just don't ask how to pronounce Jaguar!... if you ask a hundred Jaguar owners, you'll get a hundred different opinions, and a hundred disdainful looks. :) |
Jaguar Jag-war or....Jag-you-are
|
so "Fooks" it is? That's how i've heard it for 17 years...(doesn't mean it's right, just how they say it in Texas :)
|
fooks...

Yes, German for FOX. When you say 'Fuch' instead of 'Fuchs', it's like saying 'FO' instead of 'FOX'. (sort of) Fuchs for one, Fuchs for two. Fooks. |
Fox?
Books? Maybe we need a linguist or a German. From what's been posted so far, I can't tell whether it should rhyme with "looks," with "spooks," or with "Spock's." |

I was just about to call a linguist! |
In Germany you say Fu cks.
Unless I was misunderstanding the young woman in the Porsche www.porschezentrum-berlin.de shop in Berlin. Maybe I missed out on a better offer  |
There is a subtle difference. Probably more like a Southerner would say "fu cks." The way we say that in CA won't work. But, I prefer fooks and I don't care. I'd rather not have everyone turning and looking at me.

Once I was chatting with a German artist friend and asked how to pronounce several German words I wasn't sure of. I repeated the first one as she pronounced it and she said, No, and spoke the word again. Tried again, No, she said then spoke it again, I repeated again and she laughed at me.
So I asked her two more, same results, same laughter. Then I thought of Fuchs, tried three times, got three laughs and said, OK, I give up, you hard assed hausfrau! She laughed again and said, that's pronounced 'hausfrau'. I said, I know German is a difficult language to learn, but wow! She said, Ach, no! German is easy. English is the most difficult! This lady is fluent in four languages. |

German is my first ... it's rules are simple.. English is full of 'exceptions too same'.. and not phonetic.. Rika |
