how do you pronounce fuchs?

dumb question, i know. I have been saying "fewks" but a friend says its just "fooks". Who knows the right way?

Porsche-O-Phile 08-22-2011 11:37 AM

fooks.

DARISC 08-22-2011 11:39 AM

Rhymes with 'books'.
BTW, if you only have one, you have one Fuchs, not Fuch.

Rikao4 08-22-2011 11:40 AM

try your friends version..
using u...
fuuks...
if said properly it doesn't sound like that other word..

Thanks guys!

It's pronounced "fooks".... fuchs means fox in German.

That was an easy one. Just don't ask how to pronounce Jaguar!... if you ask a hundred Jaguar owners, you'll get a hundred different opinions, and a hundred disdainful looks. :)

VINMAN 08-22-2011 01:35 PM

Jaguar Jag-war or....Jag-you-are

MarkRobinson 08-22-2011 01:39 PM

so "Fooks" it is? That's how i've heard it for 17 years...(doesn't mean it's right, just how they say it in Texas :)

rattlsnak 08-22-2011 02:44 PM

fooks...

Yes, German for FOX.

When you say 'Fuch' instead of 'Fuchs', it's like saying 'FO' instead of 'FOX'. (sort of)

Fuchs for one, Fuchs for two.

Fooks.

Fox?

Books?

Maybe we need a linguist or a German.

From what's been posted so far, I can't tell whether it should rhyme with "looks," with "spooks," or with "Spock's."

Cool! Sounds like 'spocks'.

I was just about to call a linguist!

Bill Douglas 08-22-2011 06:13 PM

In Germany you say Fu cks.

Unless I was misunderstanding the young woman in the Porsche www.porschezentrum-berlin.de shop in Berlin. Maybe I missed out on a better offer

Zeke 08-22-2011 06:18 PM

There is a subtle difference. Probably more like a Southerner would say "fu cks." The way we say that in CA won't work. But, I prefer fooks and I don't care. I'd rather not have everyone turning and looking at me.

Shuie 08-22-2011 06:42 PM

Once I was chatting with a German artist friend and asked how to pronounce several German words I wasn't sure of. I repeated the first one as she pronounced it and she said, No, and spoke the word again. Tried again, No, she said then spoke it again, I repeated again and she laughed at me.

So I asked her two more, same results, same laughter. Then I thought of Fuchs, tried three times, got three laughs and said, OK, I give up, you hard assed hausfrau! She laughed again and said, that's pronounced 'hausfrau'.

I said, I know German is a difficult language to learn, but wow! She said, Ach, no! German is easy. English is the most difficult! This lady is fluent in four languages.

Rikao4 08-23-2011 05:33 AM

D is correct....
German is my first ...
it's rules are simple..
English is full of 'exceptions too same'..
and not phonetic..
