Car start timer?

Does anyone make one?

I'm not looking for a remote car starter (the things that require a remote control key fob thing), I want one specifically that will run on a timer and I can program to "start the engine at X:XX".

Reason is in the winter months I take the train to work (too cold to ride the motorcycle) and it sucks to get off the train at the station and then have to sit in a freezing cold car for 10-15 minutes until the heat gets going. If the train gets in at 5:30pm, it'd be nice to program it to start up at around 5:15pm so by the time the train rolls in and I walk up to the car it's all nice and warm already.

DIY it.

cheapo $1 watch with alarm
splice watch's alarm wires into transistor/relay
relay activates remote start fob's button.

done :P

i doubt that....why would they advertise remote starters that have 1 mile range?

If one doesn't exist, I'll build one - seriously. I might even work on an iPhone app for it. ;)

I need a good fall project.

Terrorists have ways to detonate a bomb via a cell phone. That probably wouldn't work for you. But if you can get it to start the car instead of blow it up when you make the call you can fire it up (oops - bad choice of words) when you want, in case you are delayed or get fired early in the day or something. You might get a visit from homeland security if you start building one though.

not sure how iphone app would work. that'd mean your car would need a device to be connected on the cell network. unless u get like a free phone with a regional carrier for $10/month

The iPhone starts several cars these days. OEM even.

Just get a Carrera. My 85 911 will blow HOT air in no time. I can't run the heater at max for more than a few minutes.

About 20 years ago, I had a remote starter in my Celica GT. I interfaced a pager to it. Being a radio tech I had access to that stuff. I could start my car from anywhere on the planet providing I had access to a telephone.
