Porter Air - Anybody Flown This Airline?

Has anybody here flown on Porter Airlines out of Toronto? Seems to be a nice little up and coming regional airline. Was thinking of using them on an upcoming trip to Montreal since all the other airlines want $1300 +/-. They get a lot of good reviews, but I have also heard complaints about lots of delayed flights. Plus, you have to fly through Toronto's small city airport. You are on an island - literally, no amenities except for their nice little lobby. I suspect that if the flights go according to schedule, it is a nice experience, but if weather, equipment, or crew time hiccups, then they don't have the assets for a back up plan to get flyers home.

Any experiences/thoughts?

I am an Air Canada loyalist (points y'know) but my wife has flown with them a couple of times without any issues. WestJet is the other cheaper option.

They fly the Q400 turboprop which was the DASH-8, impressive safety record from 1995 till 2009 when 2 planes crashed both due to pilot error. I've never flown Porter, they run ads here all the time, but I have flown in DASH-8's and like them.
The Q400 version would be a fairly new plane.

A friend of mine swears by them - flies back and forth between Montreal and Toronto all the time. Definitely way more convenient than the main Toronto airport, if you're coming from or going to downtown Toronto. 5 minutes from downtown by shuttle, and way less people than Pearson.

I flew them twice a week for about 8-9 weeks this spring, nice airline and the airport is MUCH better than flying into Pearson if Toronto city is your destination. The lounge there is great too, and open to all. FWIW AirCanada has started flying into this airport as well.
It is true that they seem to delay or cancel flights more than most for the major routes, but for my Boston bound flights they always had another scheduled max of 1.5 hours later so no biggie. Overall I would highly recommend them.

Even if you get delayed you are 30 min. at the most (including the boat ride) from downtown. I've seen Porter shuttles downtown all the time.

I did a month of Toronto-Newark turns back in March for my cargo airline, and though I did not fly on Porter, one of the crewmembers I was flying with flew on them all the time and was VERY happy with their service. This appears to be a company with its act together. They use a Canadian-built DeHavilland Dash-8 Q400 aircraft, which is extremely reliable and fuel efficient. The first airline I worked for I flew Dash-8's, I have 1300 hours in the right seat of one, and that's a great airplane.

Toronto! Man, I had a great time there. That city rules, even if the weather SUCKS!

I was on a per diem, so I stayed at this sketchy Howard Johnsons.... Which was literally next door to the Ferrari dealership and about 1 minute walk from the best cigar store in the city. I had a great time in Toronto and would definitely go back.

Thanks for the responses guys. I booked my trip and we will see. Kind of looking forward to a trip on a boutique airline.

That area (Yorkville) is where all the Hollywood types will be next month for the film festival.
