Cleaning a Plastic Fuel Tank
It is plastic -- so cannot just boil it out
this tank adamantly wants to be cleaned in situ - it does not not not want to be removed and shipped somewhere AND.... this tank is full o' crud (varnish and worse) -- it wants to be cleaned in just a day or two AND AND AND -- this tank wants to be cleaned for a pretty low price (15 gallons of whatever cleaner could add up) I know that you guys know how to do it! So, HOW?? |

What is next for the tank?
I clean plastic sprayers between different chemicals all the time, easy task if the tank isn't varnished on the inside.

 Just kidding! First pull the tank and drain it. Then wash with water. You're going to want some strong detergent as most cleaners that could be used on a metal tank will eat that sucker up. Simple green may be your most eco-friendly option. You'll have to actually get in there and scrub, so bring your gloves.

person I'm posting for has a 1980s VW plastic fuel tank that is very very hard to remove - he wants to do it all with the tank in place
it is reportedly full of crud and that seems to include varnish - I have not seen it personally as he's in Idaho pressure wash in place? Simple Green? |
