Long distance travel by pu truck, what do you do with your luggage?

This is a work truck, and has a tool box, so caps, and tonneau covers are out. I could fit all my stuff behind the seat, but I am sure my lady will find a way to fill the whole bed. Can you tarp it all off?, or how about wrapping our travel bags in plastic bags, and then stuffing into plastic storage containers. Or a large car top travel bag was another idea I had. Any other good ideas of how to keep our stuff dry?
This would be the first time I have ever taken a vacation type trip in a truck.

We have a camper shell.... So thats cheating...

We used to load up a big old RK toolbox before we had the shell. Plastic totes with a bungee strap to hold the lid on work well too...

I've done a few long distance trips in a topless Jeep (just the bikini top, no soft top), and found that a couple of water resistant duffle bags like this:

Watershed Yukon Dry Duffle - Mountain Equipment Co-op

combined with a couple of back pack bag protectors:

Pacsafe Anti-Theft Bags & Travel Security Products

worked out great.

Everything stayed dry, and we didn't have to worry about someone just lifting the stuff out of the back of the Jeep when we stopped somewhere for food or gas or something.

Might be a bit pricey for a single trip, but I've had that setup for about 8 years now, and still get great use out of them.

Big plastic containers (use tape to hold the tops down) and ice chest to keep the important items dry. Water proof duffle bags is the way to go.

Long distance travel by pu truck, what do you do with your luggage?

Waterproof duffles are great, but I find the inside walls kinda grippy making them difficult to stuff.

When I had an open bed, I used big plastic bins.
Just so you know, things stay fairly dry right behind the cab at highway speeds.

Dry is easy, plastic and tape, I think the bigger question here is what is Fred bringing back that he needs to vacation in his work truck?

Ditch the tool box (I bet it's half full of crap -I had one) Get a tonneau cover for cheap when you get home throw the crap collector back in

I've had fiberglass flat covers on the last 2 trucks I owned. Stuff gets wet with those on unless you have the tailgate seal also. Plastic tubs wrapped in G-bags for a open truck box works well.

Have done all of the following on trips:
1. garbage bags--thick "contractor" bags with duct tape
2. Plastic bins --as others stated use bungees to secure lids or you will lose one.
3. blue tarp. l;ay half tarp on bed floor, place luggage on tarp, fold tarp over, and use zip ties to close up. Make the seal tight so you don't end up with a blue parachute.
