Are Hats Back?

I dug an old friend out of storage. Had him stretched to reverse decades of sun shrinkage. Re-waxed his cotton, glued on a new leather band. He looks decent again - battered, worn, but serviceable in a sort of Indiana Jones way.

But, wait - I don't see anyone wearing hats anymore. Goofy plaid trilbys on snarky hipsters, that's all. I mean real hats, not the ubiquitous baseball cap.

Are/will hats coming/come back? Weirder things could happen. Watches are hot again.

yes

Hard-Deck 09-03-2011 12:54 PM

Hats are cool, especially vintage ones

azasadny 09-03-2011 01:45 PM

The only hat I wear is a baseball cap when I'm working outside, but I see a lot of guys wearing them around here...

masraum 09-03-2011 01:58 PM

Hats are cool (baseball doesn't count), cool people an the minority, that's why you don't see many hats.

Where's the picture of your hat?

GH85Carrera 09-03-2011 03:10 PM

Back in the olden day hats were cool. The only hats I ever wear is to provide shade for my head. That is cool!

mossguy 09-03-2011 03:45 PM

I sure hope so!!

Racerbvd 09-03-2011 04:54 PM

I wear a Kangol once in awhile. On the weekends its a baseball style hat.

I've been sporting a brown Bailey Mannes. I turn up the rim & wear Clubmasters, makes me look like grouchy old man.

I have been wearing hats for over 20 years, on and off. I used to have a black fedora to go with my black trench coat. People thought I was Mafia. I wear all kinds of hats all the time, not just ball caps. Hat's to me, brings back the good old days, and it looks good, IMO.

Hard-Deck 09-03-2011 05:27 PM

Oh, just please do not wear a beret.

strupgolf 09-03-2011 05:53 PM

No no, no beret for muwy.

I wear a flat cap a couple days a week

Dottore 09-03-2011 10:26 PM

They never went away.

Nothing quite like a nice smoking cap.

I sometimes wear a Kangol knockoff. Well, not really a knockoff... whatever that style is... with no logo.

And, judging by this bit of photo evidence that I found on the internet, I'd say 1) hats are back and 2) it's definitely the cool people that are wearing them.
;)

I wear one in the winter when it's cool out. Any other time and it's too hot.

You fellas do realize that Kangol is just a brand of hat maker that makes many, MANY different styles of hat (even baseball), right?

Kangol.com

Lots of folks seem to associate them with the flat cap style.

I didn't know that was backwards... I thought that was the way you were supposed to wear it.

I guess there are different rules for wearing a hat in different countries. But outside of the US, for men, manners dictate that you never wear a hat indoors. You remove your hat when being introduced to a woman, and NEVER EVER EVER EVER wear a hat at a dinner table.
