Usps...

So what's going on with your postal service? Things are taking weeks to get here (Aus).

Not having any problems here in the US. I mail about 50,000 pieces a month and haven't noticed any slowdown. What kind of mail (parcel, publication, letter)? How is it send, through a consolidator or straight from postal service to postal service?

Not that long ago anything form the US would arrive here in 10 days or less.
But lately it's been taking up to 5 weeks.

Usually larger packages posted through a regular post office with tracking.

On an Australian metal working forum some members are complaining of even longer delays.
.... Stating that extra security measures are in place because of the events of 9/11 and the 10 year anniversary.

I'm not really bothered by it. Just curious as to why.

I ordered a bundle of parts for the BMW from Pelican a couple weeks ago and it only took 10 days.

Have you considered using FedEx? I hear many more positive things about them as compared to the USPS re: on time / as promised, fewer packages lost or damaged.

Fed Ex/ UPS ? If they treat Aussies as they do Canadians, be prepared for an absolute screwing every time. If there is no real time pressure, use USPS. They definitely have gotten slower to Canada as well but I can't help thinking that security issues on both sides of the border is the likely cause. Cheers

Too many deadbeats, too strong of a union, too inefficient and costly to exist.

Repeal the congressional mandate that says no other company can compete with them for 1st class postage and let em sink or swim.

I sent a watchband back to Sinn in Germany on July 5th, paid for airmail, and they're claiming it still hasn't arrived.

In the past that's been my experience as well. I guess it's the luck of the draw.
