Going to Istanbul Sept 5-11 anyone there?

Pwd72s (Paul) you had a contact. Anyone else in the area up for a beer and a cigar in a 98% Muslim country?

Evren doesn't smoke...but he does appreciate bourbon. I'll send this link to him, let him decide. Who knows? You might get to visit my old 911S...pat her on a fender, if you do, Okay?

Ruki, Evren's lady, loves bacon cheesburgers.

Like Paul said, see if you get together with Evren. I feel really guilty because they bought us dinner at the Four Seasons & we couldn't get together again at the end. I'll pay for a good bottle of CA red if you will take it to him, Hugh.

btw here is my Turkey Trip Report for your amusement & to whet your appetite for Turkey. Take your wife or have her fly in & extend your stay if you can.

Ian, I'm thinking this is probably a work trip for Hugh...which makes me think maybe Disney is shooting a movie there? Nice to have you confirm that Evren & Ruki are good people. Feeding the hungry who show in their city...

Yeah a new TV show for US domestic TV. It's called "Missing" with Ashley Judd. We shoot Prague, Croatia, Istanbul, Paris, Rome and a few other places. I'm not giving anything up here it's all over the Internet.

Ian cool write up. If I can meet with Evren I'll bring a bottle of CA red with your compliments. IIRC you bought me dinner a few years ago.

Got your email, thanks. Paul said you and your wife are MIT grads, my Dad taught Nuclear Engineering there for over 20 years.

So I leave tomorrow afternoon and arrive about Dinner time on Saturday. I return on Friday, Sept 9th. I hope to meet Evren on Wednesday night. I'll be bringing a bottle of Woodford Reserve Bourbon and a still undecided CA Red wine. I plan to post pics like I did when I was recently in Prague, you can follow them or not. I'll try adding some historical color, but basically my talents are limited to taking photos and posting them. I'll be on a Tech Scout Sunday and Monday and on location the rest of the week. Unfortunately I don't own my schedule on these trips, I'm at the schedule/mercy of the Production company.

Say hello to Evren & Ruki for me, please.

If you do get some touristing time, my top 3 in Istanbul are: the Blue Mosque, Ayasofya (Haghia Sophia) & Topkapi Palace. Go late in the day to the latter two to avoid huge lineups.

Enjoy!

Ian

Sitting in the Air France Business Class lounge at LAX, they have some booze, but the food is just some nuts, olives, cheese (Baby Bells), ritz crackers and potato chips. I'm totally underwhelmed. Lufthansa is much better. I guess I expected more from the French what with their fancy cooking and all.

Well I got here and called Evren, unfortunately he had to fly back to Minnesota to see an ill relative about the same time I flew here. We had a nice chat on the phone and I hope to meet him another time that I'm here. I got in two hours ago and its now dark so no pictures.

We started out our Tech Scout with a ride on this boat. Just beautiful. Istanbul is the gateway between Europe and Asia. In the background across the water is Asia.
