Accidental artistic Porsche/Wildfire picture
Due to the Texas wildfires this last weekend, our entire neighborhood was evacuated as it got very, very close, taking out 30+ homes in our neighborhood less than a mile away. (we ended up being fine).
Since planes couldn't dump due to our topography, they used the Star-flight (life flight) choppers & dump buckets to get to the impossible-for-trucks-to-get-to areas. Sitting in an evacuation line, 4 dogs, 2 cats, one hysterical wife, I still managed to get a few artsy pictures with my old 3g iPhone: kinda neat. Mark ![]() ![]()

Glad you guys made it through alright.
I've got some coworkers that live north of Houston that have fires very close to their homes (though not as close as you had). It all seems a bit more real when it's that close to home rather than just being on TV.

Yeah it was a bit surreal to say the least; hits you once you're racing through your house, breathing ash, smoke; power goes out as you're packing, & you grab your video camera to make a quick run-through to record everything you can in case the fire gets it all. Course, I found a black garage with 4 Porsche's in it, so I stood there recording the black as I talked about all 4 cars (for about 10 seconds). We had to double-back once in the car to get the photo albums: can't replace those easily.
Here's a video from the nearby Bastrop fires: crazy: See how fast wildfire spreads - Texas Parks and Wildlife [Official] - YouTube

Man, a nice tropical storm bearing about 7" of rain would be sooo nice for you Texas folks.
Small consolation, but it's wildfire season in Oregon now too. Several large fires going.

only if the storm went right over them -- the irony right now, is that tropical storms in/near the Gulf have increased the winds in TX, making the fires worse
Good Luck - and when it's over think about the fact that things will likely get worse over the next few decades |
